G'day all,
Before I go tripping off tho the friendly local Nissan dealer, can anyone shed some light on a rattle I have.
It sounds as though it's coming from the front left hand side of the dash, but it has a distinctive metal to metal sound to it. It predominately happens on flush seal (not hotmix) roads with minor undulations at moderate to highway speeds.
I thought I remembered reading something about this rattle on here some time ago, but couldn't find anything by doing a search.
Thanks in advance :-)

I have got the same problem in my 2003 GU Patrol (3 litre TD). The local Nissan dealer was no help (even under warranty). I suspect that it is something to do with the passenger's airbag. Sorry I'm no help, but I can share your frustration!

Me, I'm in the same boat, metaphorically speaking ...............
I have an insidious rattle cum clunk coming from "somewhere forward" and have had all sorts of 'qualified' diagnosises given, from tie rods to spring leaf slippage.
Believe I have located it (confirming tomorrow!) as being a loose or detached or foreign "something" inside the drivers side door cavity, (manual windows!) and
thusly extremely hard to locate aurally. Difficulty in winding the window down MAY be further evidence.
Not conclusive, but it is frequently the little things that the 'pro's' can't find........

Hi P.G.(Tas)
Had the same noise in my 4.2TDI when it was 8Mths old.Turned out to be the spare battery box on the L.H. side. It had cracked the mud guard where the bolts held it on through not being fitted correctly.Take battery box in hand and give it a good shake and you will soon know if thats the problem.
Regards Duke.

P.G. THE RATTLE YOU ARE EXPLAINING DOES SOUND LIKE PASSENGER AIR BAG. JUST REMOVE GLOVE BOX, GET A TORCH, LIE ON BACK LOOK UP INTO BOTTOM AIR BAG YOU WILL SEE TWO BOLTS ( I THINK FROM MEMORY) LOOSEN BOLTS AND ADJUST AIR BAG FROM SIDE TO SIDE OR UP DOWN. SOMETIMES
THE GAP BETWEEN AIR BAG AND FRAME ARE TOO CLOSE.

If that aint ur problem .... try these 2 suggestions....
1. Internal door rattle, something worn or loose (can sound like its comming from dash) OR
2. IF the GU bonnet hinges are the same as the GQ ones. They can be rubbing against metal when bonnet is closed. Its an easy fix though, You just open bonnet and sit it on its leg. Then look for wear marks on either side of the bonnet hinges. Or shake them side to side, If you hear any metal sounds then thats the problem. The way to stop them rubbing is to lever them with a long screwdriver until you think they have been bent enough to stop rubbing.
worked on
mine (GQ) and noise has not returned.
Like I said, I dont know if the GU are same as GQ, but thought id pass on my suggestions from expierence.
