Hi,

Just picked up a set of 285/75/16's BFG muddies (from Bob Jane T-Mart @ $2100 + rims) - have a 2" lift, the front wheel is very close to the guard when it is on lock. I had to remove the mudflap to allow the tyre to fit.

I'm looking to do the same tire wise at some stage. I have a steinbauer p-box on mine (3.0l). Makes a big difference to driveability. More power and torque than the dtronic and easy to fit.

Mine has a slight glitch at the moment in that the engine light stays on until the engine warms up slightly, and restarted. This doesn't worry me a great deal. They are sending me another shortly to see if that fixes the problem. This is on a 2006 3.0l TD. May be slightly different from previous models, hence the glitch. Their follow-up to the problem has been very good.

Katoom,

I am thinking quite seriously about getting a p-box for my GU. What does the fitment involve and can one easly remove it in the even of getting the vehicle serviced?

Thanks,

Angus

It sits under the bonnet and plugs into the back of the fuel pump. The p-box cabling has 3 plugs:- 1 to the pump, 1 to the original plug removed from the pump, and one to the p-box itself. The pump connecter is a little difficult to get at, but I can remove it all in about 5-10 minutes. I remove the 2 bolts on the fuel filter and move it slightly to get better access for my hand to get down there. It becomes a lot easier after you have done it once. I made a little bracket for the box itself as it was hard to find a flat spot (I have an extra fuse box and other stuff in the way) for it in the engine bay (size about 10x10x3cm). I recently removed mine for a service and couldn't wait to put it back on. Inside the box, all the electronics are totally encased in epoxy. Should be no water worries what so ever. Plugs are high quality units.

Hi check out my post 31845. I have just returned from a 20,000 k trip towing a van and, still stand by what I said in that post. My Patrol is performing faultlessly and is still great to drive. Towing the van I was able to sit on the posted speeds with ease.

Hi

ARB told me when putting in dtronic to my Series 3 - that could not use in Series 4.
Didn't go into it in more detail as it did not apply to me - but may be worth contacting dtronic directly.

Not sure exactly about your BFG's, but I have a 2" lift and fitted Cooper STT's 285/75/R17 and yes they did scrub on full lock. But it is a very simple operaton to remove the mudgards and cut away a small plastic protrusion insude the front arch that the tyre hits. ( I Have my Coopers on a set of 17" steelies for off road) so when I'm back on my standard alloys/tyres I fit the mudguards back on. (Thr protrusion had no relevance to the mudguards and seemed to be nothing more than decorative to keep the visiula flow of the mudgurd. being inside the wheel arch, I had no hesitation in cutting the corner off as it can't bee seen unless you have your head inside the wheel arch...
Voxson on this site has the same tryes on his GU4 but with a 4" lift and no probs at all even with mud guards apparently. (is in Cape yorke now so will be able to give 100% assurance upon his return in the next couple of weeks.

Hi Dude...
Yes i have a 3inch lift with 30mm spacers and on the standard alloy rims they fit well...
The different offset on your steel wheels seemed to make matters a little scrapier but with that mod you did worked out well...
I didnt scrape tyres on guards whatsoever anywhere on my trip which officially ended today... *sobbing*....
Some of the things we had to climb was a good test of articulation,,,, no contest with anything of hi-end mods but good for a standard Patrol with lift and lockers etc...
Over 3 hrs hours of dvd recorded....
The trip was great,,,, i wouldnt have wanted it to be any dryer when we went up the OTL...
Nolans brook was about 1.3metres deep on the way up and had dropped about 150mm in only a week on our way back...
Catch you soon..
