Just a quick tip for GU owners (
well, '98 st's anyway). If your dash lights go out, its probably the tail light fuse, which also lights up the parkers. Was about to pull the dash apart to find a loose wire , but noticed the tail lights weren't on when I had the parkers switched on. Glad I didn't go with the difficult option!
Cheers Andrew

Andrew.
And why did that fuse blow, Either a short circuit or overloaded. The most common cause is a short in a trailer or in the wiring to the towbar plug.

Greg

haven't worked that one out yet, but I suspect the boat trailer I towed to
Kalumburu last month. The other day I drove it at night for the first time since so its the prime suspect at this stage. may also have to check the wattages on all of the globes, if my memory is OK, watts = volts x amps, so if I'm up around 120 watts with parkers, tail lights and 4 tail lights on the trailer it may be the cause.
Should only be about 80 odd watts of the top of my head, but I will do a more thourough search soon

Had exactly that happen to my 88 GQ.
Was a trailer wire short, and blew tail light fuse...lost dash lights.

Do you have the Extra taillights fitted? this is a common cause of issues, specially while towing at night

I know just after installing rear globes to my GU the indicators and
hazard fuses blew, I now have 10amp in indicators and 15amps in
hazard lights.
One day i will replace them with LED's and if need to add a relay for the trailer plug

Thought I'd add another "GU Fuze " poin there so that if anyone i doing a search whilst puzzling about thier GU Fuzes..
I have an 05 GU which has two Cig lighters in the dash.. now one of these dies recently after getting some work done.. After pulling the dash apart etc etc and finding no power to any of the length of wire leading to it. (earth was OK) and no apparent reason. I started to pull every fuze out of the box (maybe an Auto electrician would have done this 1st.. next time I will)
Anyway finally I find the "headlight wiper" fuze is blown. I wonder; thats interesting.. I dont have headlight wipers and the fuze is blown??? very curious...
Anyway, after replacing this fuze my 2nd Cig lighter started to work again.
So NOTE: for GU owners.. naming convention on your fuze panel is not necessarily all that accurate..

I had a laugh when I saw that one on
mine - it has a fuse in it so I left it there. I was wondering what will stop if I took it out.....I have the manual on CD, might require some study one day..
