Thinking about a new rear bar for the Patrol. Looking at ARB and Kaymar offerings so far, but wanting some feedback from others on the pros and cons of them, as
well as an idea of a reasonable price for one. Thanks.

I have one fitted to my 2002 GU which I got from All Terrain 4X4 at approx $2500 with twin wheel carriers and is a sturdy unit I am very happy with

I haven't bought one yet but I have done the research. I have decided on the Oposite Lock bar with twin carriers. It's around the $2300 mark. I just can't see where the extra $1000 goes for the Kaymar or even that bit more extra for that gay looking ARB one.

2 things I didn't realise until after my Kaymar bar was installed....
Firstly the rated ball weight was 350kg when I had the hayman reese towbar on. This was reduced to just 220kg with the Kaymar bar.
Secondly, my GU has a 4" lift and the tow hitch receiver on the kaymar bar is located in the centre of the bar, approximately where the black hook sits in the factory allow step.
This produced a new challenge because the towball ended up way off the ground. ) I think 680mm from memory. Most trailers/caravans etc are produced with a max ball height of 400mm. (The supposed max legal height)
If you don't tow stuff, this will be no problem but even with an 8" drop hitch I had to do a spring-over on my box trailer and it still doesn't sit level behind the GU.
Cheers

You retain your original towbar with the O/L bar so you don't have any of those probs. Also it's a PITA if you need to use a snatch strap in the hitch reciever. The pin is under/behind the bar.

Yeah, would have been nice to retain my hayman reese bar under the kaymar but not possible as they use the share the same mounts. With regard to using the snatch strap in the kaymar bar, I use one of those recovery block things in the receiver which has a bow shackle hanging off it.
The location of the pin behind and under the bar is tricky at the best of times. If I remember, I usally attach the recover block before heading out. That way, it's quicker when you have to attach one of them toyota's to it. :) (sorry couldn't resist)
I am not 100% sure but I think the ARB rear bar uses the normal towbar mount (I know it does on the 100 series) but i didn't like the design of the ARB bar being made up of so many bits. The simplicty of the kaymar bar seemed like a better option at the time.
