Just be thankful you don't live in Europe - "Petrol prices are poised to break through the key psychological barrier of £1 a litre. Diesel prices hit an average of 98.93 pence a litre on Sunday while unleaded petrol hit a record price of 97.02p. " Currently £1 = Aus$1.
This explains why I saw few 4WD vehicles when I was there 4 years ago.
Also the size of the
parking spaces - I was driving a VW Golf and I found most
parking spaces to be very tight.

Right!!! LOL
Yes and BP tried lifting it’s petrol to +1.40 the other day in
perth and that lasted all of 12 hrs before it fell by about 10c a litre, The servo up the road is 1.22 now
You know these Petrol Pricing Experts are the only people I know who can constantly be incorrect and still keep there Job, It’s like they all sit around drinking beer after work and come up with some magical figure that will be tomorrow Petrol price Jump.
Like what was it $2 by last Christmas, 1.60 By
Easter just gone, 1.40+ by 2 weeks ago. Like chit with wild predictions like this being flung around and you wonder why the marked is unstable.
As for the Middle East
well when has this region ever been stable?
On a side note, Shell in the US are trying to get permits to start mining a shale rock oil field thought to have over a trillion barrels of all in it, Now that's alot of black chit.

One reason there would be fewer 4wds over there as they don't have any bush! That's the only reason i have one.
That's the way Australian cities will go. It is proof enough that improvements in public transport need to be a major focus for governments and people need to begin demanding it. Driving to and from work everyday will be a thing of the past.

Heading off on our first OS trip on Aug. 16th. Campervan around Europe for 2 weeks and then England for four. One week will be riding bikes across [the skinniest bit]. I'm having to budget around $1,000 a week for five and it'll cost $198 each for the bike ride, including accomodation!
Still... it seems to be numbing now as the prices rise. Remember when $1/litre was a lot.... somehow $2 a litre just seems inevitable.
Practicing French... German..... Italian.... Pom.....
Cheers Royce

The main point that is missed here is that the effect of the currency of the country and in particular the people's average earning. This does not make fuel any more expensive than what we face each day in Australia.
I was in in Ireland only two weeks ago and the cost for diesel was 1 euro 9 per litre. This equates to about $2.00 or slightly less in $A dependant upon the exchange rate. The locals are paid the equivalent level of income which makes it quite affordable for them as it balances out. Not once did I here anyone complaining about the cost of fuel in their daily lives. We Australians see the cost as huge but not the locals as it is proportionate to their incomes. Large cars are on the road and car sales are spiriling up and up.
I for one now even more appreciate the value if what we get here at home against the lack of exchange rate our humble dollar get us overseas.
We still are the lucky country.
