Has anyone had any experience of starter motor failure on petrol GU Patrols, and if so, are they repairable? I believe its the solenoid on
mine, which my local Nissan dealer tells me is not available, which is believable as this is also common with Toyota starter motors.
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance

Hi Chris
I have a 2000 GU petrol (On gas)
I recently had to replace
mine after 135000 kms.
The auto electrician was going to repair it but it was beyond repair.
I had just completed a 10000km trip from
Perth to
Canberra and back and everywhere in between without any dramas.
2 weeks after I got home it wouldnt start. I hadnt had any trouble starting on the trip but the sparky said it was quite badly burnt out.
So I still have no idea why it happened.
Evan

y61 starter motors are serviceable however the problem may be local availability
even if ex japan wait should only be 4-5 days. nissan have the best v.o.r system i've seen. they will air freight anything at no extra cost to you

The internals let go on
mine at about 120000km. Auto electrician unable to source replacement parts, genunine or otherwise to repair. Was not prepared to pay the Nissan price for a new replacement or wait for it to be delivered from way down south so obtained from a local auto electrical wholesaler a Chinese copy that has now done 50000km with no problems. Similar story with alternator. In this case have now had fitted a Bosch alternator (looks similar to original) as used on recent Falcon after modifying lower mounting bracket. Also has a slightly higher output than original. Should be able to obtain replacement parts for this alternator pretty
well anywhere if it becomes necessary.

I have only had one come through my workshop.
It was polling and totally burnt out, unrepairable so I sourced a new one from my local auto electrician. Haven't heard back from the customer so must be OK. They soon let you know if there is a problem.
Hope this helps.
