People,
I am about to mount my palm PC, into my 100 series I mean:-), and would like to hear opinions on best method. I have a spare cradle which I intend to use however, the cradle only supports the unit by the serial connection which would be subject to severe vibration. I am guessing some velcro or something to help support the unit.....not sure.

Any ideas.

There is one at the Exploroz shop that clamps the computer and has an amplifier too built in. I bought mine on eBay with power, input for external GPS, and amplifier too. I have mounted a Ram fitting to it as the original stalk didn't seem to want to hold together

Vibration is a problem! I bought an HP universal cradle for my Palm PDA (I presume you are talking about a PDA) which has a flexible gooseneck and a strong clamp at the bottom end for attaching to smooth surfaces. Just sent it back today to the retailer in 2 pieces! The PDA/phone holder part that is attached to the gooseneck just came off and I couldn't glue it back again. The plastic is that tough slippery stuff that is hard to get glue bond to. The way I had it set up was fairly standard - clamped to the front windscreen and coming out level to the edge of the dash. There must have been too much stress though with the rough tracks that I have been on lately. I will have to think of a support system, or angle it so that there is not as much stress on the fixing point.

Hi ppgrass

The glue you need for these jobs is Loctite 406, which I get from CBC Bearings. Dunno who else sells it. There is almost nothing that this stuff can't stick, including unwary fingers!

"Loctite 406, which I get from CBC Bearings."

Thanks John - I'll get some and give it a go if I don't get a new replacement. I tried Shoo Goo but it wouldn't even dry in the hole!!

I use a metal case which comes with a hinged lid for my HP, I removed the lid then siliconed a 50mm wide aluminium "L" bracket to the back of the case, after it had set I adjusted it a bit and siliconed this to the dash under my dash mat. All you see when you look in the vehicle is the PDA sitting just out from the dash and just left of the wheel. No problems so far on some very rough and corrigated roads. I can email you a photo if you like.

Hope this may help

I use one of those old screw on flexible metal phone mount stalks with a thin piece of board the same size as the PDA mounted on the outer end. The board is then covered in velcro and the back of the pda is also covered in velcro, the PDA never moves.

First and cheapest option for me was velcro - sticky backed stuff straight on to the dash. Very cheap, quick and seemed like the right amount of support/give.

Have now taken the front off a metal case and mounted that with a bit of flat steel bent in the vice at appropriate angles, to the dash. A bit of rubber stuck to the back of the case means it can be firm against the dash without rubbing/rattling/leaving a gouge.

Looked at Ram mounts, but they were too bulky for my liking and I am not too keen on screws leaving holes on the top/front of the dash, so made something which adheres & screws to a bottom surface. Power from a cig-light lead. Bluetooh GPS stuck to the dash with a bit of double sided tape.

Hi Toytruck,

You could try a dashmount and or a PDA holder from Kiosk Communications. They have been around for a while and have good products with charging connections and inbuilt regulators so you just have to connect to 12 V (not all holders though). Website is - Kiosk Communications

Another vote for sticky Velcro - it holds most of my truck together and cushions the electrical stuff.

I reckon building a house to hold a PDA might be a bit over the top......
