I’ve been doing some comparison of Deep Cycle or Hybrid batteries that will fit in the 12 inch space of an N70 battery.
The first two are wetcell and the last three are AGM.
The Exide Extreme isn’t really promoted as a hybrid, but it does have an amphour rating.
CCA=Cold Cranking amps RESRV=Minutes of discharge at 25 amps to 10.5 volt
AH=Amphours for 20 hour discharge
-- BATTERY -------------------CCA -RESRV- AH --- LEN - WID - HT -- KG
Exide Extreme N70EX --------- 620 - 150 -- 80 -- 300 - 174 - 220 - 25
Trojan 24 TMX Deep Cycle ---- 440 - 140 -- 85 -- 286 - 171 - 248 - 21
Remco 12-100 AGM ------------ 350 - 180 - 100 -- 304 - 165 - 208 - 30
Trojan 27 TMH AGM Dual Purp - 560 - 175 - 100 -- 305 - 168 - 233 - 30
Fullriver HGL90-12B AGM- ---- ??? - ??? -- 90 -- 307 - 169 - 211 - 31

Whats the actual Use Mike
The exide Orbital 48AH is the best of the bunch for me , as I use an electric winch off it, and its the low internal resistance that counts there. As opposed to running a low current fridge for a long time.

I'm looking at a battery which can provide deepcycle discharge while also being able to be used for Diesel starting in an emergency.

Mike,
I'm currently using an N70 Exide Endurance wet cell deep cycle as my auxillary, Its now 3 years old, and easily cranks my 6cyl diesel. I test it every 6-12months, to see if its still OK.
I reckon they all will crank OK.

Mike ,Ive been using a Fullriver 80amp AGM HGL as the starter for close to 2yrs in the 80series turbo diesel +2x the same as aux under bonnet + 3x same in c/trailer , lots of misinformation about using AGMs as a starter , lots say that an AGM wont handle the heat under the bonnet ,to that I say bovine droppings.

I agree - nearly everyone who uses AGMs is very happy with them.
Those rare cases where AGMs that are installed in the Engine Compartmemt have failed, I suspect it's due to Alternators which put out a higher than normal voltage or don't provide Temperature Compensation of the voltage output.

Fullriver AGM batterys
Site Link
put out 750cca for the initial 5 seconds . If you have 2 AGMs joined for a winch for example then you have a whopping 1500cca for the first 5 seconds .

The Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) definition refers to the current that can be sustained for 30 seconds at a temperature of -18 deg with an end-voltage of 7.2 volts.
The Remco could also be rated at 550 amps - if you only looked at the 5 second current capability.

Mike why compare the Trojan 24TMX when in the same size case you can get the 27TMH with 620 CCA, 115 AH & 200amps reserve or better still go the 31AGM with 720 CCA, 110 AH & 190 reserve, be it in a longer case but some may have enough space under the bonnat. Trojan have upgraded their web site recently & added a few more battery options than in the past including a range of Deep Cycle/Start batteries that may be worth looking at.

. . because the 12 inch size (305mm) of an N70 is the maximum size for many vehicles.
You have to stop somewhere :-)

Yes my mistake Mike the case was about 30mm longer than the NZ70 size but they do fit neatly into 80 & 100 series cruisers with replacement of the plastic tray..

I've yet to have a shot at you Derek, as many others have.
But.........
Fair Dinkhum, you never miss an opportunity. You treat this site as a way to ply your trade.
Might you announce publicly how many forums you frequent and advertise your business? Hmmmmm, probably not.
Just out of interest, on whose authority, other than your own, is the Supercharge Battery of a "very high quality" ????
I've never heard of these (not that I'm any form of battery expert).
-Where are they made?
-Have they been used in any reputable commercial installation?
-How long have they been on the Australian Market?
-Can you produce any independant Australian test results?
Should I go on????

Hi Jimbo
Thank you for the enquiry. Follow the link to the SuperCharge website and decide for yourself.
If you do a
forum search you will find members who have used the product.
You are are paying member are you not !
As for forums I only visit this one as I am a sponsor and author.
Regards Derek.

Hey Jimbo take it easy on Derek. Just because you've never heard of SuperCharge batteries doesn't automatically mean Derek's comments are inaccurate. I've had a SuperCharge battery in my 80 series for over 3 years with no hassles. Might not be a MRV70 but still a SuperCharge. It was cheap even with delivery and installation at the time. I don't think I bought from Derek unless he delivers to
Brisbane western suburbs so for the record I have no vested interest in making this post. Just don't like to see anyone unfairly "attacked".
