greg and barb fraser is a beautiful place plenty to do and see you will love it may be a bit cool at night so rug up no
camp fires on beach blame the back packers for that.but take what you need for they dont miss you for anything on the island.also a good time for fishing as it has improved out of sight since the removal of
the beach netters so have a great time also take a tide chart and limit your driving to low tide have a good holiday dags

We went for the first time last
easter. Mind you we spoilt ourselves and stayed at King Fisher Bay Resort for a change from camping/caravanning.
We want to go back and see some of the rental properties as a viable alternative to
camping. It can be quite cost effective with a few people over a week or more. They are usually listed in the RACQ magazine.

We have always preferred
camping.
Bit more hassle, but we look the independance and doing our own thing.
But did rent a house for th extended family once at
Eurong.
Nine of us and it worked out
well considering 3 of the group were not
camping people. Still got to pack food and bedding so it didn't save that much hassle.

Greg & Barb
Camping on Fraser is wonderful, and only a Queenslander would say its cold in July. Its just not as warm as it usually is there. But take jackets as the wind chill can be a pain. And
the beach sites are sheltered and the isolation must be magic.
Fires in the
camp sites are difficult anyway now - you have to buy the wood at
Rainbow Beach, and use it in the common
camp fire circles - of which you get about two in a big site. Don't listen too carefully to all the snarls about backpackers - we had a beaut evening around a campfire with a cheerful mob of Irish & English backpackers one night last August. They were enjoying a grand adventure and were fun to chat with. And they said thank you for the firewood we supplied. (
Well, my kids backpacked Eurpoe so we are willing to be generous!)
You may find that you feel like a shower, which is not provided along the beaches, and swimming is a bit nippy. You can drive into one of the campsites and have one there, and if you pine for a campfire and have wood then do that on the same visit.
Just take heaps of $1 coins for the showers - the
Ranger office is open for 4.7 microseconds per day to give you change.
What ever you do - its a great palce to visit and you will go back!

G'day Greg & Barb, Just got back from Fraser week & a half ago. Beautiful weather, slept under a sheet for most of the night only pulling the blanket up early in the morning. In my opinion
the Beach and Other is the only way to go, there's nothing like relaxing at
camp enjoying a few quite ales and watching the whales play offshore (who needs mimi).
If you're keen anglers throw a couple of pillies in as the tailor have started running, we bagged 14 in about 30min between 2 of us in a gutter just out in front of
camp on the day we were comming home mmmmmm fresh fish.
Driving conditions on the island were pretty good, everything firm as they had a lot of rain the week prior to us going.
There are quite a few sheltered campsites from north of
Eurong to Eli, further north than that and the sites are a bit on the open side so if that is your preference take a couple of tarps just in case the wind is up.
The Pro Fishermen have already started to set up at Waddy and when we were there I think this is where we saw the most vehicle traffic.
If you're looking at doing at lot of site seeing ie: the lakes,
central station and the other side of the island I would recommend you stay nearer
Eurong as most of those
places are quickest to access from there.
I'm sure you'll enjoy yourselves (it's hard not to)
Cheers
Al

yes a Queenslander and proud of it .was at Fraser only a month ago and yes some of the pack packers are friendly and some are brain dead you might not hear the local news but I also visit Harvey bay a lot 99percent of the time an accident ocurres it back packers rolling troupies wont listen to advice on how to drive. as for the fire their is a total fire ban and yes once the rangers supplied fire wood once, not now some packers did not put out their fire properly and someone’s kid walked in it the next day hence no more fires. As for
Indian head they have closed down the
camping area because they made a pig sty of it and the rangers got sick of cleaning up the mess. if it sounds like I don’t like them
well you guessed it .max I have been visiting Fraser for over 30 years and I have seen the best and worst of it, the way its going the rangers would like every one to stay in the resorts so they don’t have to work and as much as we need tourist I am afraid to say some of them do not treat it as we do. And max the fisherman live at waddy dags
