G'day, Can any of you 80series Toyo owners give me some advice as to improved performance for the GLX Petrol Landcruiser. My brother in-law has just bought one, it is in great condtion(cosmetically) but the performance is sluggish is there anything that can be done...... oh yeah, it's an auto.
Thanks
andy

Does it have the 4.5 litre engine or the old earlier 4 litre six in it.
I had the 4.5 litre and it had no lack of get up and go at all.

G'day Cruiser, Yeah! It's an older '91 model, straight 6, it seems to take forever to get up and go, is this one of the traits of that era?
Thanks

Sounds like you have one of the older 4 litre motors with a carby on it. If thats the case, these motors were a left over from the old 60 series landcruiser. They only produce 112Kw of power.
See Redbook link below to specs on the 91 petrol
Site Link
I think the first of the newer 4.5 litre motors came in around Oct 92 and these motors are fuel injected and go like the clappers with 158Kw under the boot.
Dont know what you can do to improve it. Guess you need to speak to a mechanic, but maybe as a start a set of extractors might help.
Hope this helps.

CHA CHING CHA CHING
FIT A FITCH FIT A FITCH FIT A FITCH
Then get 2 hyclones and maybe even fit a Peter Brock Fuel Polariser.
These 3 things will make it run so
well the car will produce its own unleaded fuel.

Dont know what you are referring to there Bill. I dont have a petrol. If you read the thread again, I said I used to have a petrol and I never indicated that I had a problem let alone made any reference to the fuel or its origin.

The first Chev based engine in the Cruiser was a real gutless , plenty of induction noise with no go, my advise don't throw good money after bad, buy the later model with 4.5 litre twin cam engine, very strong engine.
