some of you guys may remember my thread last week about buying a car in queensland.
Well I transferred it no probs without a q-land garage address last Friday. Vehicle is back here in WA now (with extra 5000k's!) and I will swap plates to WA later in the week and update those who are interested.
Mainly for those from WA who want to buy over there and avoid the outragious stamp duty here.

a bit over 5000k's in 5 days-sat morn til this arvo, with a half day holdup in SA. Couldnt get anyone to help with driving! Was going to truck it back but thought what the hell, was the same in fuel!
I'll post the EXACT fuel consumption figures I recorded while travelling when I calculate them out tomorrow.
Lot of rain over there saturday and sunday!

The WA gov. really has a hide with its expensive stamp duties etc - the revenue it gets out of the mining boom etc is huge, they have a massive budjet surplus but still charge a fortune for things like satamp duty. I names like stamp duty, and 'levy' etc, they should have to call it all tax, as that is exactly what it is! I would never buy a car here when you can almost fund a holiday flying to Qld and driving back on the savings.
Cheers Andrew

In SA we have the same TAX. Costs about $1300 to transfer the piece of paper on a $30k vehicle.

I only know Qland is 2% plus about$20 and WA is 6.5% for a vehicle over $40K

final addition to the mission. Car got inspected today, ($56) and fitted our private plates. Rego $555, will get a refund from Queensland of about $330.
Total costs-Stamp Duty/transfer $980, diesel to travel home 578 litres at around $1.42 average $820, food and accomodation $200, flight over-frequent flier points +$45. RACQ check, would have done it here or there anyway.
Vehicle has
snorkel, turbo timer, electric brake setup, Hayman Reece hitch, power chip, new rubber, toyota alloy bull bar and
driving lights, pirana dual battery setup and just been serviced.
Alternative was earlier model 4sp auto ( marginally less k's) for $4000 more plus stamp duty of about $3400.
Got to see a fair of Aus (briefly!) and the first rains thru Gunnedah/Coonabarabran for a long while (I understand)
anyone from WA needs anymore info let me know!
