Not 4wd I know. But I am having trouble with outlook. Everytime I exit Outlook all my read emails dissappear into cyberspace. They don't even go into the deleted folders. Just started doing it yesterday. Have checked the computer and every read email has dissapeared. I think the kids being on holidays may have something to do with it but no one is admitting changing any settings. Don't mind the clean up actually but I have lost a lot opf exploroz ones I was saving for special reasons.
Hope a computer guru out there can help

Click on 'Tools' ,'Options', 'Other',Advanced and select - 'warn before deleting items' and see if that works.

Just to confirm, are you referring to "Outlook" or "Outlook Express" ??

Similar names, different programs!!

If it is "Outlook Express", then what your describing can happen if your mail folders are corrupt (often because they have gotten too large in size).

Let me know if it is Outlook Express, and I can assist more.

Otherwise, if it is "Outlook", then your email is stored in a .PST file (Outlook Express does not use PST files). Older email may also be saved in archive.pst that you can recover. There is a PST repair utility available from Microsoft if your PST file is corrupt.

I have tried Firefox - IMHO it is no better than MS IE - and in fact it will not operate correctly/open some html applications I use. I can see no advantage in using it except perhaps to obtain a euphoric psychological feeling by not using one of Bill Gates' products (which I think is one of the main reasons people try alternatives)....but that’s just me.

You are right Active x no good on firefox but I dont find it a prob very often

But as for no advantage???? how about built in pop up blocker, no need to install dodgy MS patches to repair security flaws, spyware free popup free surfing on the net, tabbed browsing, download manager etc etc

and its free.................no comparison

Firstly - dont want to get into any long discussion about what is better (leave that to the toyota/nissan/engel/waeco crew:) as it depends on what you plan on using it for. The "no advantage" comment related to me only (I have no idea what other peoples requirements/intended uses are). Just pointing out that changing for the sake of change may achieve nothing and in fact make it worse in some cases. It obviously is better for you - good stuff. I am happy to convert but have not found any reason to use Firefox exclusively (or at all actually). I have both IE and Firefox installed - what I use depends largely on pure chance (unless Firefox wont work on particular site/application). IE also has built in pop up blocker and there is no need to install security patches if you don’t want to (don’t think they are fixing flaws in all cases - but just keeping up to pace with hackers), no idea if they are dodgy?? - Firefox has regular upgrades also..maybe they’re dodgy as well?..what is dodgy defining factor?. Lucky Firefox is free, it wouldn’t be worth paying for as Internet Explorer is also free.
Keep on surfing
Cheers

I find the big advantage of Firefox is the tabbed browsing. I look at this forum together with some MSN groups and a couple of others. I have them bookmarked in one group. When I open up Firefox I simply go to the bookmarks and at the bottom of all groups is “Open in tabs” - when I click on this all my newsgroups open in their respective tabs. It is simple to go between these forums by clicking on tabs. You can have multiple pages open in M$ Exploder but each one you open opens in a new opening of the program (engine) and so eats up more memory than opening tabs. If a message has a link to look at in it you right click on the link and select “open in new tab” - you keep reading the thread and when the link has opened you can switch tabs and refer to the original post and the thread without having to wait for them to keep reloading.

The problem of web pages constructed not in accordance with recognised international web standards is easily overcome with a little extension called IE Tab - see tinyurl.com/hluuj – it is so good at imitating IE that it fools M$ windows update.

Another good one is PDF Download - tinyurl.com/gdeq7 . If a link is a PDF file you can download it straight to an Acrobat reader instead of having to wait while a reader opens in an IE window.

There are even extensions to download and save complete web sites with only a few of clicks. There are many hundred other extensions many frivolous and many useful.

To those who are trying Firefox look for these extensions to personalise and you will never go back to IE.

disco1942 - thanks for heads up - no doubt Firefox people have come up with some innovative ideas - "bookmarks" sounds like a very good feature..will give it a bash when it fires up next....still dont think its worth complete change over...but Im learning.

Try this,
Tools....Options....Other....Auto Archive.
Check all of these settings, sounds like you might have the " Permanently delete old items" button checked and or "delete expired items" checked.
Somewhere there is also a setting "delete read emails" or "delete emails after opening"
Cheers

My kids manage to do things to my computer that nobody has ever seen before and I'm in the computer industry.! Gotta keep them away, let me know if you get stuck, your problem could be caused by a few things but most likely caused by your view setting which is likely set to view only unread emails.
