I've done a little bit of pig shooting in my younger years and think I'm gratefull I didn't come across this sucker!
BTW if anyone has had this come thru to their in box as full size ( 3.0 mb) and can tell if it's been doctored would be interested to know, I don't know enough about it to tell. Though you would think it would at least have made the news, or maybe it did if it was a few years ago.

Having roast pork tonight as it happens.
Wonder how much crackling that "thing" would be good for.

Seriously though seems a bit of a tall story.

Holy snapping duck bleep batman, that's one hell of a porker.

Looks real enough due to how much the cruiser is sitting on it's haunches.

No wonder the pig hung itself...waking up next to him.

Regards, Trevor.

Why is it that in all of those shots of monster sized critters the man (or any other object of reference) is situated behind the animal?
Does my question answer your question about the picture being “doctored”?
Cheers

BTW I have shot some pigs that appear to look that large when observed from the distance. They ended up being approximately half the size when dead...
Still quite impressive :)

By jingoes - there is a photo of a (dead) feral pig in the front of a shop in Northcliffe (WA) - it weighed in at 130Kg I think - nicknamed "Hairy". They do considerablel damage to bushland - shoot them all.
Cheers

i would say real, very likely, obviously angles and positioning have an effect. 100 kg liveweight is a lot bigger than the average feral pig trotting about the country..and when i have heard of 220kg and 280 kg dressed , its not hard to realise that like heaps of other animals, there are some getting around that are a hell of a lot bigger than most....its very satisfying to get one now and then that is a real effort to drag along level ground by yourself.......now heres a thought...does anyone with slaughter/butcher experience know what an average size cow carcass weighs?....if so, that could put an end to the 280 kg dressed figure i have heard about.....i just cant see one ever weighing in as much as a cow

Theres a photo of a pig at the Old Ringers Bar at the Prairie Hotel (West of Charters Towers) it claims to be 280KG dressed, looking at the photo I don't doubt it but it looks like its got a fair amount of domestic in it too.
the hunter is standing beside it in the box and its shoulder & head are on the floor

russ,

Don't know what weight "an average cow" would be, but a well conditioned cow weighing 500 kg live, would dress about 260 kg, @ 52% dressing percentage. Big porker to weigh 280 dressed!

Hooroo...
Seen it all, Done it all.
Can't remember most of it.

Hi Pezza ,

I have shot a lot of pigs and have never got one even near that size . The picture does look odd to me - it's snout and head look all wrong . You could put the man's head in it !

One thing is for sure ( as somebody has already noted ) , it looks a lot bigger because the man is well behind it - an old fishing photo trick , the secret of which is not to have your hands visible for comparison .

We once took a picture of a 4lb brown trout hanging from a tree with clear line . We then positioned my mate 10 feet behind , with his arm up looking like he was holding it up . The trout ended up as big as my mate . Good fish - good pig !

Cheers ,

Willie .
