Dodgin & Weavin
Hi All
We are sitting in
Cairns (in the rain) aiming to head further north on Monday.
Does anyone have any first hand info on the current state of the tracks to
Cape Melville /
Bathurst Bay and then on to Kalpower in Lakefield?
Cheers
Dodgin

Does that mean you're planning on going up via the Starcke track ? If so, I hope you have got a good winch and plenty of recovery gear if it's raining as much as they say it is, cause you're gonna need it on that track.

Yeah Pezza, we've got a good winch. 2 in fact. We're great believers in back up so I borrowed a mates hand winch. Also plently of recovery gear. But if it's too dicey we just won't go that way. We have no set itinary and can wander as track conditions allow.
Thanks

Dodgin & Weavin,
One of the
Cooktown rangers went to
Bathurst Bay early this week and returned, all on coast road. Very rough and slow. He tried
Kalpowar to
Bathurst Bay last week and had to turn back at Barramundi
Creek because of boggy condition and
water height. (door handle). Ring
Cooktown Rangers on Monday on 4069 5777 for update on coast road.
Cheers,
Bros.

Thanks Bros.
Just the info I was after. We'll pop in and see the rangers at
Cooktown when we get there.

Hi Dodgin,
I am currently sitting in
Cooktown and was in
Cairns this morning..
CREB Track is closed,
Bloomfield Track OK, but I had to cross creeks which I had not even seen in 2004. According to the locals,
Cooktown to Old
Laura as
well as Old
Laura to Musgrave are OK too. But this year, I would avoid any secondary track, despite all the gear I have in the car (I travel on my own). Maybe we meet further north (I inted to reach the Cape this year, which I could not do two years ago, due to time problems).
After that, I think of driving the Gulf Road before I fly back to Europe, but I do not know whether the shortcut Musgrave RdH to Dunbar HS is the right option. I will ask in Musgrave tomorrow, if I reach it...
Cheers
Eric

Hi Eric
We'll keep an eye out for you. We leave
Cairns tomorrow. Will be going up the
Bloomfield track and then decided where to go to once we reach
Cooktown. We are also aimng for
the tip but we do have a habit of getting side tracked. Likewise we are travelling alone this year so will be watching the side tracks carefully. We did the track from Musgrave to Dunbar HS in 2003. No problems then but who knows this year. Thanks for the info re Lakefield. Might see you down the track.
Cheers

Hi Dodgin,
Can see my rigg on the pics. I rent it, but it is the same as last year (with 40.000 more k i.e. 350.000, but it is like Johny Walker: ....years old, but still going strong...Exploroz sticker in front and on the backside (did I possibly make a mistake with the language - my english is not so good..).
Cheers

D&W
Between
Cairns and Cape Trib keep a weather eye out for Rented Kia's, they sometimes forget on which side of the road they should be driving on, spoken from experience!!!
