I've owned a barrett 250 for about 4 years. Recently I have been unable to make contact with radtel beacons however I am still able to get a revertive from vks beacons. is anyone able to advise me if this radio uses some form of battery backup for retaining memory for particular channels ie the vks channels are perhaps "permanent" and the radel channels rely on battery ???

Don't know anything about your radio but HF propagation is pretty bad at the moment. We have been at the low of a sun spot cycle and HF hasn't been working very
well for the past year and won't for the next year - perhaps someone who actually knows something technical about propagation (I don't really) may care to comment?

Propagation may be poor at present, but I talked last night to
Alice Springs base from home paddock in
Canberra. Bit scratchy, but legible.
