Just wondering if anyone knows anything about a V8 Chev transplant for a GU?

What could I expect to pay for 6.5 lt ?

How long does a conversion usually take?

Is it worth the money?

Willis,

Try threads 32401 and 32851. Both of these have lots of good oil on what Bilbo has done to his Patrol and the results of real life experience. He has a 6.5 Chev in his Patrol.

Hope these help.
Trevor.

You would expect to pay $20,000+ my quote was $23,000 for the GU 4.5 Auto converted.

Hey Truckster

What's the name of that new web-site you've set up for your GU?

Hi Willis

Don't know you car, but one would have to have a particular reason to do something like that as it would be hard to make economic or performance sense.

If one traded from say a 1998 GU to a 2002 4800 auto then its around $12000
and you would be unlikely to save more than $1500 a year on fuel for around 20-25000km. So any payback would take many years.

The 4800 would deliver more effective torque to the ground and be faster, a lot less NVH and later model and be easier to service and to sell.

Think a lot about upgrading my 4800 to as its getting old, but there is no way I've found to come with an all round more effective combination.

Not everyone wants a lightweight fuel guzzling petrol robin.

Thanks for the info

I have the 2003 Auto 3.0 TDi patrol at the moment. After reading the posts about these particular engines over the last few weeks, I was just wondering if I had bought a lemon. Having spent close to $16000 on accessories it is not economically viable to sell the vehicle, so I am going to stick with it. I ahve not had any trouble with the GU so far, so the Chev conversion was a bit of a knee jerk reaction.

there's nothing wrong with what you have bought. Plus the auto 3.0l is a very nice drive. Generally, appart from the odd one, it's the 2000-2001 models that have the most problems.
