Dick smiths had a special on a uniden radio, I think it was a uniden slimline uhf (cant remember model) and a 2 watt handheld UHF with microphone for $318. A very good bargain for a good unit.
As for second hand, check out the quokka but from what I have seen of secondhand, the price of a new one far outways the age and cost of a second hand radio. I have seen second hand radios of the older, large style going for around the $200 mark.

I hve a GME TX4400 for sale in the Trader section of this site. The price is now $300.00 plus postage. It is the one at the bottom of the page (not the top). You will find that this brand is the most reccommended on this site. It is as new and has original box, manuel etc... I will pack it up in a good box with plenty of bubble wrap.

Michael,
Don't worry about your TX3400. A tough unit and will last you for years.
The 'chassis' of the GME range are probably the strongest around.
Value for money, you can't beat them. Granted there are more expensive units around, but bottom line they all do the same job.
Some will claim their radios 'put out 25 watts'. That's all very good, but no use punching out 25w if you can't hear the other station who's putting out the legal and useable 5 watts.
This is not an advert. for GME (as I have a Tait 2000 with 40/ UHFCB, 40/ 70cm HAM, and 20/ 'other' frequencies).

I have had no problem with it. I just updated it for TX 3800's which is a commercial set with 25 watts on private channels. I use them for my business.
The TX 4400 is a great radio and it was only used as a base station. So it is a "vehicle virgin" and is a perfectly usable unit. Great Sell Call functions and built in scanner. I can even pick up Victoria police on it and the MCG operations on footy days.
As far as I am aware the only GME that runs on 25 watts is the TX3800. All other GME UHF radios are 5 watts.

Tks guys,
Pity I did not think to check the trader, could have done with a 'vehicle virgin' lol
Just checked with the tech and the set is on its way, never mind.

Yes, we have stayed there several times. Nice family run
park, extremely clean and neat, owners are a very nice couple. Excellent location, just across from the river, only 5 min from town centre but not actually in town environment which appealed to us. This isn't a commercial run
park, have stayed at Big 4 in
Mildura which we did not like and would not stay at again. We are not carvan
park people - prefering to
bush camp, but this is one caravan
park we would not think twice about staying at.
