Rocked up at Work, 5:40am, Monday and looking forward to another week NOT!!!, and as I approached my tool chest I thought gee that looks like it’s open, That’s funny I locked it on Friday??.

Walk over and oh goodie it’s been busted open, Humm yeah.. Nice to see Security doing their Job!!!

As I go throu the draws I expected to find everything stolen but No.
Somebody took the time to bust into my toolbox to steel 4 metric ratchet spanners and 1 ½ inch drive 600mm Extension bar, What the Hell, I mean wouldn’t you at least take the entire set of spanners and the hole socket set you stole the extension bar out of.

3 more were attempted but only mine and another guys were successfully opened; the other guy had similar sorta stuff taken

All up Probably a little over $600 worth was taken

Not happy, only 2 weeks ago my $380 drill was taken out of my bench during the day and then strangely it showed up a day latter.

Commiserations Exploder - seems to me that you either have a light fingered co-worker or someone is shopping to fill orders. Either way your security needs a good reefing.

Yes it seems that way doesn’t it.

It’s being looked into and hopefully what was taken the company will replace so it’s not too bad.

Except now the locking ability of the too chest is a bit average as the door is bowed from where it was pried open and the lock is a now a bit loose, so I will need to do something about that, like a external pad lock or something, which basically means I need to De-face my own property to make it secure from these SOB’s, Arrrr.

Exploder,

It's pretty sad when you have to nail every thing down, makes you look sideways at everybody else, and doesn't make for a good working day.

Must be someone close by to 'borrow' your drill one day and return it the next, mongrels like that give me the chits.

An inside job???
Was there any sign of a breakin to the premises?

Sounds very fishy to me

Michael, know what you mean, don’t mind lending stuff out, if asked, I don’t even mind if people I am working with go into my bench to quickly Borrow something small and not too $$ like Drill bit’s or a file or something but when you start talking about stuff worth a bit of money it is just not on.

I have taken to just locking it all up now even if I only walk away for 2-3 minutes

HopScotch> I would say a inside job unless somebody has jumped a barbed wire fence to get in, and then if you did that you may as well take as much as you can not just a few items.

The only other way in is past a maned security gate, I spoke to a mate who was working the night shift and working in the same aria as my box on Friday night and he said it all liked fine when he left at 3am on Saturday.

Gary> yeah, just play spot the Lime green guy walking around the yard the net day with my tools LOL

Anyhow will see how many tools I have left when I show up tomorrow, it might be a short day LOL.

I had a Laptop stolen at work - when I reported it to the Cops, I suggested some maintenance guys in the building might be suspect. They reckoned something like 95% of all work thefts are comitted by someone who works there - ie: a fellow workmate.

Yeah, I know what you mean. My brothers office [next to mine] had the outside window smashed after having the secruity grille ripped open and they nocked off his laptop computer. I turned up at work the next day [saturday] and was asked a few annoyning questions buy the cop who turned up to take photo's & finger prints

HHMMPPHHHH. I was not impressed. Even more so when I thought about it later and wondered if the boss's suspected me or someone I know!

Anyway, still there and moving on!

why were you so put out about the police asking you questions regarding the break in next door. he was just doing what any good police officer would do. he is not aware of your background at that time nor is he aware of your relationship to your brother. seems to me that he was covering all bases. you would probably winge if you were the victim and found that the police during the investigation had not bothered to speak to the neighbours. also you would be surprised how many crimes are commited by 'innocent siblings'

Guys,
I would be bold enough to assert that 99% of thefts in most scenarios are "inside jobs". I"m a Security Officer in a hi-rise building that has access control systems in place. i.e. You have a photo I.D Swipe Card that allows you access to only your authorised floor levels, and then still need to swipe to get from the lift foyer to office/work areas. All visitors are signed in and accompanied at all times.

No one person, security included, can access these areas without leaving an audit trail.

It's amazing the amount of stuff that still goes missing, not the office cleaners, massive random checks of cleaner's trollys have not shown up a single item, surprising the amount of gear that goes missing around the mid day lunch break or found missing when someone comes in the next morning after NOT being the last person to leave the office.

Yep! Your honest work mates are only honest while they think there's a chance of getting caught.

Ian
