Hi Peter,
I have a T/D 80 series Landcruiser and have been running Synforce synthetic lubricants right through the engine, gearbox, transfer case and diffs for the last 20,000km.
I change engine oil every 5000km and prior to using this oil I have always used very good quality mineral based oils.
After the first 5000km of running the Synforce "Cruiser Oil" in my engine my idle speed had increased from 600rpm to 850rpm and I had to adjust it back to 600.
This is enough evidence for me that there is less friction in the engine which hopefully will lead to longer engine life and lower oil temperatures.
I think I have seen Synforce advertised somewhere on this site.
Good luck with your decision,
Brett

What ever takes your fancy its a personal thing, they all have ratings such as CJ , CG etc and as long as it complies with these recommendations and is suitable for turbo engines you should be right. I used Castrol RX Super for years and never had any dramas whatso ever but also changed oil and filter every 5000km.

Peter
I have been using BP Vanellus and Castrol RX Super, in an 80 series and a new common rail turbo hilux, its worth mentioning that BP owns castrol but each oil is made to different specs, however regardless of the car/4wd personally a diesel should have its oil changed every 5,000km's. I have currently been using RX Super, reasonable cost and dose not hurt the budget so much when changing every 5,000km's. I can't say that the Vanellus or the Castrol are the best, but i certainly notice the difference once a service is done. Personally i think the Vanellus c6 plus is an execptional oil, good for commonrail diesel with a turbo.
Hope this helps.

Most Turbo diesels run fine with a 15/40 CI-4 diesel engine oil which is commonly available in the shops. I buy in 20 litre drums from a truck
shop. Used to use F U C H S but now use Gulf-Western at under $70 for 20 litres. I don't believe there is any significant difference between brand names.
There are a few exceptions to this spec - especially the Jackaroo and Nissan 3 litre motors.

Every major oil manufacturer has a website lube guide. Look it up and find the EXACT recommendation from your favourite oil company for your engine.
Once again this stops the my mate's uncle's grandma drovers dog's sister uses blah, blah oil.......
Also ensures the longevity of your engine and atleast if it goes bang you may have a case with the oil supplier. Try mounting a case with my mate's uncle.........!!
Cheers.

Best oil ?? how many stars in the sky ?? the best oil for your own Turbo Diesel is the one that YOU use and are happy with ,changing oil +filter on a regular basis is of more concern than "best" oil as "best" is only an opinion of those who use that particular product.
