Fishermans rest as it's called is
well worth the nstay as it's on the river edge and has a self composting
toilet. We have camped there for a few days and loved it even catching a few Yellowbelly.
Also
Mitchell has a van
park that has onsuite sites as
well as ord sites and I believe that you pay for the first night then get two free. It used to be the other way round . We stayed in the
park for the 2 free days then moved to Fishermans rest for the balance of a week. Before someone gets stroppy, we buy all our supplies from the local stores and top up with fuel before we leave. The pub has beut counter lunches as
well and do not miss the local thermal pool worth the few bucks just to sit in the hot
water and relax.

G'day Barty, Yeah! we stayed there at Fishermans Rest for four days, spent a restful time there. Beautiful place, quite secure, grassy
parking in amongst the gum trees along the river bank. For us there were Goanna, Birds, Fish. The town upkeeps this spot for people to
camp at, as others have said, we bought locally, food and fuel even got a wheel alignment done.
andy
ps it's
well off the road

So where on the river is it?
Been through a few times, and also stayed in town a few times.
When heading west and you come to the river, just before town, the van
park is on the left. Where is it in relation to that?
Is there a track to the
fisherman's rest?
We usually stop in
Mitchell when we have a late get away from Brisy, otherwise we stay at
Augathella or
Charleville for the first night out heading west.

About 3km. west of town, north side of road. There is a
sign and you can also see the "dunny" perched on the rise.
It is a most pleasant spot, try and pick up some firewood before you get there, not much left about.
There is another spot with
toilets at the weir but not as shady.
Dont forget a walk along the town footpaths to admire the mosaics, and the library is
well worth a visit to look at the art on display.
Mitchell?- a charming little town, very friendly (a good 4wd
shop also) we always stop there if travelling that way.

Thanks
Seen the above. Good town to visit.
Good meal at the pub and good butchers too.
Boys not too impressed by the smelly
water, but typical
bore water, just got to let it sit for a few minutes, otherwise great. :-)
