Hi guys, I received this today from a fellow Rider and thought it
was a good idea and should be posted.

In just 2 weeks, we have our national Census - the night of Tue
August 8th.
In the last census - 2001 - only 10% of households, that had 1 or
more motorcycles, rode their bikes to work on that day.
If that number was increased to at least 50%, (which would equate
to~220,000 motorcycles - based on 2005 figures on national bike
registrations) then wouldn't that be a great statistic for us to use
in the future when talking with government and safety bodies.
Imagine being able to tell them that the 2006 census showed that
over 200,000 bikes (or around 50% of riders) are ridden/commuted on
each day! The safety and importance benefits of being able to
use/quote that statistic would be fantastic! Netrider
(http://www.netrider.net.au) has posted a front page news item, and
a discussion forum topic, giving a "call to arms" for riders to
ensure they ride to work on census day. It would be encouraging if
everyone did the same with their membership base and/or riding
friends and contacts. (forward this message to them). Lets get that
census working for us!

cheers
Reiner

Already doing it and have done so for the past 20 years. Great idea that may help the VIC government drop the $50 levy that is imposed.

Are you able to get single seat rego down there? somebody told me only in Qld.
I pay about half price on rego. Or two bikes for the price of one.
But it could be that your rego is cheaper anyway.
There will be a lot more bikes on the road soon the waqy petrol prices are going.

Ride safe

single seat is only in Qld.

With stats like that the would only increase the levy down here, not a chance in 1202389029348023984 universes they would let that amount of cash go ungrabbed at!

Given it's an XR400 ( single seater) the rego is nearly $300!!!!.

Cheaper????!!!!!!
Bike rego in the NT is about $364 for 6 months and you still hear wan#ers
complain when we use a whole car park to yourself!!
I suppose It would be a lot more courteous to keep riding around and around until you find someone on another bike who would like to share a park with you.
Good idea about the census though.
Cheers

I may be wrong but once the size gets over 500cc the rego cost is nearly the same as a car here. $364 for 6 months is excessive and would cost more than my fourby for a full year.

You have to wonder why people complain about bikes taking up a parking space when most of the places are taken up by cars with only a single occupant anyway.
Its about time that more bike parking spaces are provided.
Apparently it is the higher percentage of claims against third party insurance for bikes that pushes the rego up, that is why single seat in Qld is cheap as you have no pillion and the rider is not covered by third party which i think is not the case in some other states where the rider is covered.

In Melbourne bikes can park on the footpath. That is smart and keeps car spaces free and gives us something back for the rego prices rip off.

Anything over 250cc is considered a luxury bike. Up to 250 it's v. cheap.

Ripoff in my eyes but at least we don't have demerits or speed limits.

Loogsary, I was born in a wet paper bag....

I guess riding a 250 from Alice to Cairns via Plenty, is definitely not luxury.
