G’day folks, I just started buying oil in 20 litre drums
other than the obvious, pouring said oil into 5 litre containers or such
is there a better way to get oil in engine?
ie: small pump etc.
Thanks

you can buy hand pumps that screw into the top of the container. Or you can purchase a 1L oil bottle like the glass ones you used to see at the service station on the stand. Makes it easier to measure how much you need and to pour into the engine.

Hi Gmouse,
You can buy 20lt drum pumps that screw straight onto the top of the drum. You should be able to pick these up at any good hardware store.
Hope this helps.

We use a measuring jug just like you would use in the kitchen its a big old tupperware one i think its great to measure how much you are putting in and easily wiped out with a rag when finished, we get it out of the drum with a small tap like the ones used on your
camping water bottles.

When trying to decant oil from a 20 ltr drum, try laying it on it's side on a bench, with a few feet of clear space to one side. The lid needs to be at the top. Hold the jug/bottle etc under the lip and gradually roll the drum slightly to one side. The oil will start to flow into the container. When you have enough, roll it back the other way and screw the lid back on.

Roachie has got the best method. Works
well for me too. Rotate the 20l drum on a bench.
I do decant to 5l containers, then I put the old sump oil into the empty 20l container.
The 20l container goes to the oil recylcers and ends up being dumped.
Then for a trip, I only need one or two 5l containers.

Great ideas, will try that next time… 5000k comes around pretty quick
Now, if I only had smaller hands the filters would not be a problem either
lol

Have a look on the side of the drum at the bottom. Some have a hole there so you can screw in a tap.
As for the pump, I got one and it is a pain. Each stroke only shifts about 100ml and after a while it would only pump on the lift stroke. Takes a long time to move 8L of oil.

Been there, done all of that. Just buy 5L containers of oil. For me, buying
caltex delo 400, only saving $9.00 per oil change. Not worth the hassle of drum pump, which I have, tipping drum on its side etc, etc. 5L containers much easier.
