I know that this is going to get a lot of flack, but apart from the need for speed mob, who is going to be able to afford the fuel ?

I reckon there would be 2 or 3 million households around australia where the cost of fuel is not a financial burden.

The stats would be illuminating. What you are suggesting is that at least 10% of Australian households wouldn't have to worry about their fuel costs. Hmmm....

Until I started reading this forum, I never gave fuel costs a second thought. The incessant fixation some folks here have with this subject is totally beyond me. When it gets to the "does driving with my window down increase drag?" level I find the subject downright hilarious.

I view fuel in exactly the same way as I do good food or grog - an absolute necessity that shouldn't be scrimped on and as such not worth vaguely worrying about.

I'd happily pay an extra few bucks a week to enjoy what I drive (I do right now as a matter of fact). Life is simply way, way, way too short not to have fun along the way.

A Toyota V8 twin turbo diesel 4x4 sounds like just my thing.

If only we were all as lucky as V8Diesel, to have plenty of $$$ to spend on fuel as we like. We could also by lots of grog, to ensure our brain-cells never number enough to make our conscience kick in and worry about the effect of unnecessary greenhouse gasses, that an 'over the top' V8 produces

Stiphodon, luck's got absolutely nothing to do with it. It's a thing called hard work.

Re: the over the top V8 comment Siphodan - to tell you the truth, if I could fit a Detroit V12 in it, I would.

I think it's much better to laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints. However, feel free to bata for a hemp bicycle, drink organic carrot juice and 'tutt-tutt' me as much as you like cuddles, if that what floats your boat. "It don't worry me none".

Agree, otherwise I wouldn’t be driving what I drive and I sure as hell wouldn’t be considering a Pro-Formance V8 as my next buy, I would go out and buy a Little economy box or something, but as it is I like my car’s so I pay for em, and if it means I need to do a extra hour of overtime to run the thing so be it.

There was a 2001 GU table top to for sale with the 6.5 turbo Chev in it the other day, lucky I didn’t have the cash in the bank, cause otherwise it would be sitting in the driveway now, and I would be Broke. LOL

I'm pretty sure someone who will be able to afford the v8 twin turbo landcruiser won't have a problem paying the fuel bill. I bet it's going to be a ridiculously expensive car.

On a side note, it bugs me to see Toyota release a new car (the Aurion) and claim it to be the most fuel efficient in its class (which, I agree, is a good thing), but then not offer an effecient turbo deisel in the Landcruiser range as an option on every model...

Not sure but I thought the new V8 was only about 4.5 litre? so it should only use a similar amount of fuel to the 4.2TD given new technology etc.
Fuel cost- look at the number of cars travelling solo at rush hour in capital cities and you can see that the price of fuel is not yet high enough to affect the MAJORITY of people into SIGNIFICANTLY CHANGING their habits.

Oil companies know that now also as they have tested the waters.

Couldnt be much worse than the 80 Series 4.5L Petrol!
I filled up at Wauchope a couple of weeks back ( both tanks), made it back to Alice with about 1/4 of a tank to spare, ( Alice to Wauchope is about 400Kms!!!!)

Plse don't assume that because it's a V8 or has twin turbos that it will use plenty of fuel..? Firstly diesel's benefit greatly from a turbo, much more so than petrol motors. Twin turbos on a V8 effectively mean 1 turbo for every 4 cylinders, nothing wrong with that. The extra turbo will generate improved efficiencies. Now include common rail technology and you torqing about a very efficient modern diesel engine, compared to what we have today. Toyota aren't number 1 for nothing, I have every confidence in this being a brilliant vehicle in many ways. I would be surprised if this engine used more fuel than the current engine, but I bet you nobody will complain about the effortless pulling power and NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) levels far superior to what we have today.!

Bring it on..! LOL

Arrr.. Fence Sitters hey..? Not me, I'm in.! I bought the first ever V8 GXV in 1998 and 220,000km's later and an empty fuel wallet, I'll be back for more, this sounds like one hell of a car..! Early adopting of Toyotas has never been an issue in the past, don't see it changing.! LOL

My dealer told me the same thing yesterday, when I enquired about buying the 4.2td.
Did your dealer happen to mention what would happen to the price of the 4.2td over the next 12 months??

Cheers Brooka

Why does everyone start having kittens when they hear "V8"!!!???
This new engine is only a 4 litre which is .2 of a litre smaller than their current 6 cyl.
They are also talking about 9 litres/100 klms fuel consumption which would be lower than a curent model Prado's fuel usage and lower than my 4 cyl Volvo;)

For intersts sake the new V8 design is supposed to be based on the 4cyl "C" diesel available in some countries in the Corolla.
Thats 2 x4 cyl joined at the hip with a single crankshaft
