G'day

Was not timing gear slippage. (yet) Started vehicle, cracked injectors again for the umpteenth time. Noise sounded like bigend or whatever. Took splash plate off
and a crankshaft pulley bolt was sitting on the plate so tightened it which got rid of the clanging noise. Still copious amounts of smoke which disappeared after it had warmed up and gone for a run. I had debugged the diesel fuel lines etc a week ago and assume that this may have had something to do with the problem. WHO KNOWS!!!!!! Pulley problem never encountered before by me. Thanks for your input
Cheers
Lachlan

Good to hear you got it sorted,
I would suggest that you replace the crankshaft pulley bolt as it may have lost its 'stretch' i which case you will not keep it tight. Most engines that have had problems will occur after the pulley has been off such as replacing timing belt, the bolt should always be replaced after such work in my opinion.

Smoke on start-up for the rodeos is a guarantee. I haven't seen one that hasn't (2.8s that is)

Good to see you had an 'easy' outcome. Its always nice when its something simple
