Two weeks ago the Plenty was pretty ordinary, with a few vehuicles doing tyres. The Tanami up Tilmouth
Well is sealed 1 lane highway, don't know about the rest at the moment.
Have a great trip

Hi Hendo,
I did the Tanami from Alice in early July, 3 vehicles were in our party and one of them was what I would consider a soft roader (Holden Rodeo 4x4) and no one experienced any problems on the Tanami. As stated it's bitumen up to Tilmouth
Well (approx 185 k's from Alice), the next 200 k's are fairly rough and corrugated but the road is wide and it's only like this because of the heavy use by the aboriginal communties in the area. Once past this it gets better all the way to Rabbit Flat (approx 600k's from Alice) Theres some road works in progress after Rabbit Flat but the road is punctuated by sections that are like a hi-way for 40 to 50 k's then rubbish for 40 or 50 k's. We kept our tyres around 30psi and our speed between 90-100k's with no dramas. We also did the
Gibb River Road. If you need any more info give me an email.
Cheers
Keith

Plan on it being rough and you wont be disapointed!
Obviously it changes over night with the weather and at the moment it has warmed up a little in Alice which could mean rain (but dont hold your breath).
You just have to plan on it being open, some patches being good and some not so good.
Just check the forcast a couple of days before.
Cheers

Hi Keith
We are doing the
Gibb River Rd in September. Any info you could share with us would be much appreciated. We have done loads of reading, but it is always great to hear first hand. Our email adress is hdprice@iprimus.com.au
Thanks
Howard

Hi Steve,
I travelled the Plenty Hwy from Alice to
Boulia around the 16th - 18th July this year. Other than a bit damp on the Qld side it was fine. No bad corrugations - no bad bull dust holes. Quite easy travelling really. Was a bit dissappointed it was such a fast run these days. Matter of fact, I didn't use 4wd - no need. A commodore could have travelled it. Mind you, condition can change quickly though.
Cheers!

Hmm...must have changed pretty quickly. I was there around the 6th July and my Landcruiser nearly got lost in the detours around the roadworks. Everyone at Tobermary commented that it was pretty ordinary. It was a worse trip than the GJ road.
