Does anyone have a rough idea on the cost of getting a box trailer galvanised? I am about to start welding the frame together and would like a guide before I ring up for a quote.
Thanks
Angus

You will get a bit of buckling in the metal due to the heat involved but mainly will be in the floor sheeting.

Price quoted for me for a 7x4 box trailer was about $900, plus the engineer wanted an extra $400 because of the extra time involved drilling/grinding out the galv from where it wasn't wanted. Dunno if this was overkill or not or if he was trying to discourage me from getting it galved, but the rest of the trailer was a good price. There have been threads I believe on whether or not Galvanising makes the chassis more brittle and prone to cracking.

if made of square steel you will need to drill holes in any or all section that are, so that there is not the possibilty of having moisture trapped...big boom if there was

Angus,
Korvest in
Adelaide charge $1 per kilo.(weight of the object being dipped not the galv) Also bath sizes vary between galvanisers so check that they will be able to handle your trailer size.

I dropped into the industrial galvanisers on Maitland rd at Hexham and was quoted $250 for a 7x 4 trailer. Basically $1/kg. You will have to drill some big holes in the bottom of all the RHS sections so the gal can get in and drain back out again, looking at about 2/3 the width of the section.
