Try TR Telecom. They used to be in Ringwood but they've just moved.

You'll find them under that or Tech Rentals. www.trtelecom.com.au

Telstat in Seaford will be able to point you in the right direction if they can't help.

I have just organised one from Renta2way in Boxhill Sth. It is on the Irridium network and is a Motorola 9505. The costs are:-

Connection $44
Hand Set Rental $11 per day
Calles $1.80 per 30sec block min 1 minute.
SMS $1.60 per message
International calls $2.20 per 30 sec block min 1 minute

It comes with an external antenna and a hands free (earphone style kit) 12v charger 240 volt charger and soft carry bag.

hi mike

we looked at hiring one for our recent trip.. depending how long you are going for,
it worked out cheaper to just buy one outright and you don't have to put down the security deposit ( places i checked with wanted $ 1000.00 )
just another option

Just to clarify the options available to you if you decide to buy a Motorola 9500 or 9505 Satphone.

There are two types of SIM card you can put in a Motorola 9500/9505 satphone - about the only thing in common is that they both use the 66 Iridium Satellites.

1. Telstra GSM Mobile SIM card enabled for International roaming - it's like having your mobile phone operating ANYWHERE in Australia. Only works when you are IN Australia. People still dial your normal "04 . . . . " mobile number. There is NO additional setup or monthly charge. Call charges are higher - $2.70 per minute for outgoing and INCOMING calls. SMS send costs about a $1, you don't pay to receive it.

2. Iridium SIM card. Contract and monthly charges apply. It is allocated with a Satphone number so people need to make an International call to call you and they pay International charges, even if you are in Australia. You can use this anywhere in the world.

3. With NO SIM card in an Iridium phone in Australia, you can still call Australian 000 operators by dialling 112.

OzRoamer hire the Qualcomm 1600 dual mode CDMA/SAT phones at $140.00 per week up to 4 weeks and then $100.00 per week for longer periods.
The dual mode mean thta you get a chance at the cheaper CDMA rates prior to using SAT mode.
$4.00 per minute
Free over night delivery and return paid postage.
Phone : 0414-522-295
Also EPIRBS are available @ $40.00 per week
Hope this helps
