Hi All,
Does Anybody know the current status of the coast road from Cooktown to Cape Mellville/Bathurst Bay and back inland to Lakeland. My last report (from someone staying there) was in mid July and it was closed.
Kalpower is closed to general traffic and I know that Nat Parks and the traditional owners have closed off some tracks due to the wet.
Also does any one know if the CREB track is open at this stage?
If anybody has some currrent info Id be most appreciative.
thanks

When we were there just a couple of weeks ago, we were informed that the CREB is most likely shut forever, to be turned into a walking track. While it was closed people were still driving though, sosme bike rider had to be rescued. The ranger was driving the track giving out on the spot fines of $3000+. You can still get to Roaring Meg Falls coming in from the Wujul Wujul end.

Kerry W,
Hopefully i will have an idea on Monday sometime, and as soon as i know for sure i will let you know. The Cooktown ranger has been up the coast road to Bathurst Bay three times in the last three weeks, but has not been able to come back via Kalpowar and Lakefield due to the boggy and deep water in Barramundi Creek. He was to try to come back via Kalpowar today and i will find out on Monday if he did, hopefully.
We are going (4Vehicles) to Bathurst Bay on 14/08, either coast or Kalpowar.
Cheers,
Bros.
