Only way to do Landcruiser handbrakes is to start at the rear.
Back off the adjustment at the handle and then remove rear wheels.
Adjust rear shoes until they lock and then back them off 3 clicks of the adjuster.
You can then adjust the handle height.
For a quality built car they have a crap handbrake.
Lets hope the new Landcruiser next year is a better designed system.
Hope this helps

The process may have been sped up by mud, but 80 series handbrakes do tend to 'soften'? rather quickly, regardless of the conditions they're in.

We just got back from the Cape, three 100 series and two prados all returned with no handbrake, we started having trouble around the same time! Did you do the OTL? Maybe all the mud and water through there!!

Wasting your money on the handbrake with any toyota, They will go out of adjustment within weeks again if you are lucky.
Just make sure you have it in 1st or preferably reverse when you park it (well for a manual at least) and they hold just fine on compression
