Just picked up a new Oztent RV4 from a closing down sale. Pulled it out for a test erection (No pun intended) , all looks nice. Only problem was couldn't get it back in the bag it came in, very tight fit, has anyone had this problem..? I didn't spend too much time on it because it was late but wondered if there is any tricks to it.? Also do they need to be water proofed or are they OK as they are..?

Prior to lowering make sure the extension back is neatly pushed in, and then lower it. After lowering prior to folding in the legs tidy up the folded canvas. Go around and slightly lift each section and push the canvas in. Then fold the legs in, and hold firmly. Then roll the assy over to wrap it up, tighten the strap.

When putting in the bag make sure it is straight. The tent has a rectangular section if you get the bag slighty twisted it will cause problems.

As far as waterproofing all i did was spray with water when new just to swell the threads. Do not if this is necesary any more with modern tents as they use a seam sealer. But it doesnt hurt.

Hi Alan, Thanks for your reply, this makes sense, I didn't check the extension back as it was starting to rain and was in a hurry. Will give this a try tonight. Thks

Nealy everything I have ever bought that gets packed in a bag is a tight fit after the first opening - drives me up the wall, its easy for a machine to pack a new tent etc, but do it in the bush - giv ua bigger bags please!

Cheers Andrew

Just make sure that everything is neatly placed and not really bunched. Make sure you can squash the air out of it as you pull all together. A wet tent also makes it more difficult to pack. Ours zips in easily when dry and with practice.

It should be ok for water proofing, but good to get a fly over the top to minimse condensation but that goes for all tents and campers too for that matter.

John

I find if you open the two vents above the door you reduce condensation significantly. And if you peg the back window out it also helps. On a recent trip through SA & Vic i reduced condensation to nothing doing this.

But your right if it is wet it is hard to pack up, and when you undo it again it is saturated all the way through.

Do you use the proper Oz tent fly or just a tarp? I like the look of the fly but it doesnt cover the awning and this can still get wet. And subsequently wet everything else when you pack it up.

Alan, I don't think being saturated would be any worse. it just doesn't slip quite as easily getting it together packing up. Not that we have had our saturated. Actually the material is sort of plasticised and I don't know it would wet like canvas.

The fly we have is one of the silver one side nylon lightweight flies bought on special at Ray's. It is bigger than the tent in floor area so covers the top quite easily.

Our arrangement of the tent with the camper box proably traps some moisture inside some of the time. Not so much if we sleep with the drivers side of the box open as we often do though.

Managed to re-pack it last night, followed Alan's instructions and I think I might have actually had some spare space once in the bag.! Surprise Surprise, I must have taken a "Patience Pill" before I started. Thks.
