Hi All.

My Prado is due for it's first 10,000km wheel alignment having since purchasing new BFG-AT's last Xmas.

Whilst working under the vehicle on the weekend, I noticed that the front right tyre has scrubbed rather badly (perhaps 20% of total tread) on the inside. The left seems to have scrubbed on the inside as well but only marginally.

I dont know the history of the vehicle as I purchased the vehicle with 60,000ks and replaced the original Grandtreks with the BFG's at 70,000ks. (The Grandtreks had scrubbed on the outside)

From what I have heard (& read) the early Prados used to scrub badly on the outside of the tyre and that corrections to Toyota recomended alignment settings needed to be made to fix the problem.

Does anyone know what these settings are so I can check with my tyre specialist this Saturday as to what they have acutally set??

Im interested to see if it is what they set originally or if it has been knocked out of alignment enough to cause the severe wear.

Thanks
Andrew.

Who did the previous wheel alignment..? Sometimes the wheel alignments are rushed, was it done properley or perhaps it has moved since the last time. Get it in to a reputable tire store and ask them to give it a good going over, I'm sure it will be ok and they will now the best settings.

Didn't have scrubbing problem but bad tracking after fitting Coopers to my 95 series (2002). They adjusted it a full degree on the left which fixed the problem. They have been on now for almost 50,000km and are wearing well with regular rotations.

Did it have an alignment whe you had the tyres fitted?

Hi Wizard.

Yep.. Alignment done when new tyres were purchased

Tracking seems fine and alignment seemed fine as well (no odd noises, or vibrations at any speed.)

Booked in next Tuesday for rotation, balance & alignment.... I shall keep you all posted

You need to find somebody who will actually adjust the camber and caster angles and not just the toe in.
Most tyre mobs want to just do a toe and go.
The Prado had camber correction eccentric bolts on the lower control arm inner bushes which need to be adjusted to get correct caster and camber settings. It is a bit of a bugger to do but has to be done.
Mine is a 120 series but the figures should be close to yours.
Set the camber between 0 and -1/4
Set the caster at +2 degrees and 40 minutes. EG +2 3/4.
That is the best I have found with both mine and customers Prados.
I do wheel alignments and I have played with the figures.
They have to be close otherwise they will scrub the front tyres.
Hope this helps
