I have a pair of IPF 800 130watt spotlights.
Is there aworthwhile improvement I can make by substituting any of the newer globes and or reflectors in the surrounds?
The globes are H3.
Are the HIR reflectors and globes interchangeable?
Thanks

You can convert them to HID :) For $300- $350 you can grab a 42w HID conversion kit (lightforce HIDs are only 35w) from ebay. The rest is simple;
# find a
home for the transformers. I put
mine behind the bullbar.
# Remove the old wiring and globe from the spotties and put the new stuff in. Its a straight globe swap because you just buy the kit that matches your globe type.
# Give it 12v power straight out of your existing relay so wiring is already basically done and it stays nice and legal only coming on with high beams
The big draw back is that the kits come with a 22m or 25mm grommet for the wiring which means enlarging the hole on the back of your spotties to run the wiring. Therefore it is not really reversible. I took the plunge with my ipf900s and,
well, I won't be needing to change them back!!! :)
The light is amazing. Easily 2 maybe 3 times what it was before AND less power draw AND less heat generated!!! You are limited to the optics of your light though and there is much better that ipf900s around. A pair of xgt's converted would be amazing!!!
Plus you choose the colour temperature. I chose 6000k which is fairly close to natural light. No crappy yellow halogen light which is about 3500k. Ideally look for 4500k or 500k which is about midday sunlight in colour.
If you're in Bris you're welcome to have a look at
mine sometime. Highly recommend the swap.... don't waste time with globe inserts etc when HID is only a couple of hundred $

Mick, I've seen the HID kits around but not at three or four hundred bucks. Can I ask where from?
I have just bought a pair of the new IPF 900XS, which I believe would be awesome with HID. Pound for pound, I don't think there is a light as good as these new 900XS in a light smaller than 200mm. They run a 65w globe, and are way better than the Cibie Oscar's I had.
