I am considering fitting a set of Stratos Suspension Seats with lumber support to my 80 Series which I am fitting out to do some outback 4WD touring. Has anybody any experience with these seats or others that you might recomend. I have a back problem and need to get really good seats otherwise I won't get far without a possibly serious problem.

I put Recaros into my current model Hilux . They have been the best thing I have done to the car. By coincidence they came with heaters, so with the adjustable lumbar and heating function I have been able to deal with a slightly dickie back. I think most of the aftermarket seats with a name are better than sitting in the stock seat and would be a huge leap forward and especially helpful with back problems. The Recaros were very expensive so not sure they would be for everyones budget.

They also have the Orthopaed version for people with back problems.

Thanks, at this stage price is not the issue, I need to nake sure I survive any trips I do. No point in getting cheap seats and still having a problem.

Went down that track a few months ago. Looked at just about all that was available.
In the end went with KAB seats with air suspension. (This is in an F250)

Absolutely the best thing I have ever done to a 4x4, and I've done a few modifications over the years.

The KAB seats themselves are great, they have many many variations available, so you should be able to get one that is just right.
The key ingredient is the suspension which takes all the jarring out of it. I would thoroughly recommend it. Site Link
We did have a couple of installation issues, but sorted these out. (more a problem with the local branch office of KAB than the seats themselves)

The only problem you may strike is available space between floor and roof to make it all fit. Ask KAB they'll soon advise what is possible.

The other thing to watch out for is ADR compliance. Some common fitments will have had engineering report done but in most instances you will still have to get Compliance plate. I'm reasonable sure this applies to all states, other may know more about this issue.

I know what a dodgy back feels like so I can sympathise with you wanting to get it right.
Good luck.

Thanks, the only concern is one person suggested that the suspension seat could be a problem for some 4WD work such as steep rocky incline where you don't want the seat to move. I figure I would work around this for the benifits at other times. The most pain I get is the jarring as you mentioned. It seems to me you are right, the key for fellows like us is the suspension.
