Hello all,

I have a 2001 Patrol on original suspension which needs to be changed out. Has anyone got experience with Superpro bushes, Kings springs and Iron man foam or gas shocks? I am confused by the plethora of makes and models so I would appreciate any proven product wraps. PS I am on a limited budget, so Koni Shocks $175 -$250 ea) and Noelethane bushes ($1340 full replacement ) are a bit eggspensive!

Thanks.

MS

If Your having trouble finding someone in your area you can always get shocks, springs and bushes in a package from a well reputed 4wd suspension manufacturer such as 4Way suspension, they are quality components that are a propr package in most lift heights that you would want.
I have been running their suspension in a 4inch lift for the last 50,000 km and i am very happy, don't make the mistake of looking for the cheapest components like I did the first time and ended up with leaking shocks and chopped out castor bushes after only a few thou on the clock!

Konis maybe a bit expensive, but you dont have to replace them.. Think of them as a long term investment over lucky-chows homemade cowmanure in a dunnyroll core shocks.

Bushes for patrols - stick with OEM, offer best articulation, and wear.

King springs - very good

Ironman stuff - no experience, but crazie does. hes in foofoo land at moment, but back on monday.

Failing that OME is always fantastic, with aussie wide warranty...

Everything that Trucky said and I'll add that Dobinson springs are also a good value for money item.

I'll agree with both these mugs above me.

I run Dobinson coils with polyairs and old man emu shockers and they have coped with some nasty loads for a long time. have 260 thousand on the coils and about 250 thousand on the shocks (cheap ones failed after 6/7 thousand and replaced with OME hence the diff in km's travelled).

It is confusing but worth the time to work out a good combination for your truck.
Regards, Trevor.

Just fitted Kings Springs to TD6 myself. 42HD's on front at $145/pair with about 45-50mm lift (steel bar and dual battery). 58LP's on rear at $180/pair with about 65mm lift at rear dead empty with no rear seats and half tanks. Put 43LP's on first but the back was lower than the front on a softer spring. New springs lifted driver's side about 10mm more than passenger's which is normal according to Kings. These changes are for my '04 TD6 ST-S with 75000km.

Looking at Shock options now I am happy with the springs. Not sure which type yet but I am budgeting on $600-700 after a bit of searching around. Just have to convince myself of the quality of some brands before going ahead. Can not see how the BIG names justify such exorbitant prices. Must be good marketing I suppose.

Will put in caster correction bushes if needed as I have them left over from my old GQ which did not need them in the end. Also have bushes for front leading arm from the GQ so I am not sure of cost on these.

hope this helps

Do you need to change the springs? Do they have measurable sag that is a real problem? If no, then I'd just be looking at the consumables such as your shocks and bushes..... Might save you a few bucks unless you are trying specifically to restore or increase height.

Hi Ms

Just following Omaroo's line to, as you are on a buget

first , what are you trying to acheive with new suspension ?

Small sag in springs doesn't affect spring rates , just looks odd and can be cured with low cost spacers or for bit more get'em reset.

your standard 2in lift type springs are harder , and actually reduce wheel unless the car is loaded accordingly, ok if your problem is body to ground clearance.

You might try getting standard ones taken off a new car at 4wd shops , sometimes for nothing or small cost.

Shocks, had Ironman and they leaked.
Spent a lot of time last week getting new OME to friend on canning who just went thru the "aftermarket lift kit" experience and they failed in field.

Used standard size Tough Dog adjustables here for last 2 years- great shock for lightly loaded GU patrol, but would get HD ones for an overweight car.

Yeah also Michael, if you want original equipment again. I have the complete set with bugger all K's sitting in my shed. 4 coils and shocks from a 00 Patrol 4.2Turbo.
Could MM me for more details if you are serious about this option. I know someone that will get the gear to WA pretty cheap.

Regards, Trevor.

Hello everyone, I really stirred up the hornets nest there, sorry about that, I didn't intend to offend.

Now back to my car... I wanted to restore original ride height as I have found this adequate for my uses, and I have a low garage roof!

I have shopped around, talked to, and read from, quite a few people, sought quotes and am now set on Kings Springs, good quality and inexpensive (the ride has lost a measured 40mm all round), Superpro bushes, again inexpensive, good manufacturers service and Australian company. I am yet to decide on the shocks because every supplier has a very different sales pitch and I have found it hard to separate the wheat from the chaff!
Thanks again for all your input.
