i have seen 3 -100 series landcruisers strip the theads out of the 4 studs holding the steering arm to the svivel pin housing this month. so all you 100 series owners out there i suguest you remove the studs one at a time and locktight them back in because when they come loose on a dirt road the only warning you get is the wheel goes west.

Had a Landcruiser and the 4 studs broke doing
Googs Track. Broke the
suspension going to the NT as
well.
We all make mistakes. I learnt from
mine and have since bought Nissan Patrols.
(I've thrown out the bait - I'm waiting for the Toyota owners to bite).

Just a reminder, Who's vehicle couldn't make it past
Alice Springs a couple of years ago. From memory, I think trading it in was the only option. Your biggest problem is that you bought another Nissan. You asked for it.
Another bit of advice, keep away from those backpackers down at the low level. A man of your age wouldn't be doing your heart any good. LOL

Thanks for the info on the studs I will have to check them out, just something else to go wrong with the landcruiser
I can't wait to get home to get rid of the bloody thing, just an over priced over rated heap of rubbish I am embaressed to drive it.

Wow...strong remarks there Greg.....but fair enuff I you feel dudded, I guess.
Reports of Patrols "spitting" alloys can be found either here on this
forum or elsewhere so no one manufacturer is better or worse.
Seems to me tho that all makes have their probs/ideosynchrasies and the major manuf. are no better/worse than each other.
Over the years I've had a plethora of different make of vehicles - 1, 2 and 4WD and whilst I've been lucky overall, each of them has offered up some little niggle here and there.
Cheers
Red

HI,
Normally what happens here is that the problem lies in the workshop that has had the swivel hubs apart and not because it is a toyota. What happens is that most workshops pull them apart with rattle gun and when this happens the stud comes slightly loose and when it goes back together the stud does not get retightened. After driving over bumpy roads it slowly rattles them loose and then not good. Have seen this problem many times out in the bush and normally not good so my advice is if you have swivel hubs rebuilt check nut tension after doing a few kms.
I have worked at a toyota/nissan dealership in the one of the most remote parts of Australia and i still know what car i would rather drive. This problem has been with landcruisers for many models but it is not the manufacturers problem. Have fun
