How is the new hilux diesel going ? Any teething problems.
Someone mentioned engine trouble at around 10k a while back from memory.
Is anyone not happy with the new lux.

G'day Strzelecki,

I have had my lux for just over a year and done 20K with no problems.

Fitted diesel/gas a few weeks ago and now has excellent grunt for towing CT, although really did not lack in that department when 100% diesel.

Is my first oiler and at 8 litres/100kms around town, no way would I consider a petrol truck again.

Cheers,
Sheps

Hi Paul S,
Could you please explain some more about the Diesel/Gas that you fitted. It sound interesting. I intend to upgrade at the end of this lease {sept} and would consider an oiler for a work car not just for recreation.

Sorry for the late response Camwill69, had guests tonight and only just got back to the keyboard.

As I said earlier, I'm very pleased with the new diesel lux and the diesel/gas is icing on the cake.

As I was considering a long range fuel tank and had heard that many after-market tanks develop leaks, the LPG tank had appeal. However, the extra towing torque developed by the system was my main reason for choosing it.

It is tempting to use the extra power and just enjoy a spirited performance. But if you can keep the right foot under control and change gear earlier, you will travel a lot further on the same amount of diesel.

As to pay-back on the initial installation cost, I think you may have to do at least 100K before claiming to break even.

Cheers,
Sheps

Hi Paul and Norm,a question re the gear box and diffs etc are they the same as on the v6 petrol as that motor developes 175 kw and the same torgue 343nm as the diesel I am assumming it would have strength in reserve for additional power from the lpg/diesel combo. If its the same diffs as on the landcruiser should not be any problems in that department.

What sort of power, torque and economy figures are achieved with the gas.
Standard is 120kw/3400rpm, 343nm/1400-3200 and 8.5 ltrs /100klm .

cheers .

Good morning strzelecki,

I'm afraid it's too early to give reliable economy figures for diesel/gas running, the earlier figure of 8 ltrs/100 I quoted was for straight diesel. I have not had the vehicle on the dyno yet as we are still fine tuning the diesel/gas mix. However, it is suggested an increase in torque of 10-20% can be expected; it certainly feels substantial.

As to gearbox & diff, I can offer no advice.

Cheers,
Sheps

Hi Paul, could you give some figures on the economics of the gas/diesel combo?

I understand the system works by injecting gas into the air intake so the engine is using both fuel types at once?

How many litres each of diesel & gas per 100km do you now use?
I have heard an installation figure of $3000.

Cheers,
John

I've done about 40,000 in mine. Just got back from trip to Kimberly, GRR etc which included over 6,000 km of dirt all towing 1500KG CT. Had it in water over 700mm deep a couple of times.
See my trip report for fuel consumption, minor mechanical problems etc.

A great vehicle. Very comfortable and just the right vehicle for us on this trip.
