Hi all,
I have 2 factory batteries in the Landcruiser TD 100.
I am looking to either add a 3rd battery to run the fridge and accessories - or it has been suggested to replace and rewire the 2 factory batteries and save some weight by not adding the 3rd battery and tray.
I am sure someone has done either and would love some opinions as i am confused as the which will be better
Cheers
Dave

Don't know much about batteries, I'm sure you will get many an expert reply, but having talked to a few aftermarket resellers and a couple of auto electricians I just bit the bullet and fitted a second battery to
mine. They could only fit a 55 amp deep cycle under the bonnet but I figure that if worst comes to worst ( I.E. the beer gets hot ), I can always run a lead under the bonnet to one of the main batteries as a temporary measure.

Hi Rob,
Did you consider changing the 2 factory fitted? or did you just think adding the 3rd was better.

Hi there Ozman, this has been discussed before on here (not having a shot at you) and for memory it was alot cheaper just to add an additional 3rd battery as the two that are under the bonnett from the factory are both linked together and both used for cranking batteries and would require a lot of rewiring to get it all in order to try and seperate the two. If you do a search you might come across the post and will explain it better for you. Regards Steve M

Leave your 'factory fitted' cranking batteries as they are and install a 3rd battery specificly for your fridge.

As per Steve's reply, it was apparently going to be a bit of a drama to change factory electrics and toyota take a pretty dim view of it, so I just went for the safe option

HI Dave,
I have the second battery set up as a dual, separated from the starting battery. Was done when I bought it, although doesnt look too hard to do. This has allowed me to install the twin tongue where the third battery would have gone. No problems you will just need a battery isolator. I run a Amptech 105Ah deep cycle that can crank as
well, this is so I can link the batteries temporarily to run a winch, or start if ever the main battery fails. I run a fridge and a freezer on the second battery and so far all good. Some winter mornings the engine does crank a little slower but always starts quick.
