Hi, my 80 does the same thing. When you start it on gas (impco system) it starts on a mixture of pet/ gas. I've found that the petrol only is supplied long enough for it to start then reverts to gas only. However as the system isn't positive pressure, the gas hasn't had quite enough time to make it to the engine causing it to stall. I found that if you start it on pet and switch it overto gas within 3 secs it runs and doesn't hiccup. The last 3 gas vehicles I've had won't idle properly untill they've been driven a few hundred metres. I just use the hand throttle. Yhese were 3 different systems. No one could fix. Better to start it on pet as there is less chance of backfire blowing the airflow sensor.
Hope this helps.
