Hi all, I have my UHF mounted in dash in the DIN pocket under the stereo. The dash is standard (ie no dash pods or console mods etc). I'm getting sick of the mic sitting loose next to the transfer lever and wondered where everyone else has theirs. I wanted to mount the clip thing that holds the mic onto a blank to save screw holes but I'm not that fussed. Only decent spot I could find was just below the instrument cluster on the left of the steering column but the mic cable dangles over my knees (long bloody legs). Any suggestions??? :-S
Cheers

I have the same setup and am also wondering where to put the mic holder without having to put holes in the dash, so if anyone has a solution, please post a picture or two.

Hmmm, I'm starting to think that everyone with an 80 either has thier mic in the same spot we do or in a dash pod or overhead console! I thought we'd get at least one suggestion!!! :-S

I have a clip for the HF on the large square cutout cover behind the wiper stalk. Make sure you put the holder on a 45-degree angle though so it is easy to remove, but wont fall out when the car comes in for landing- sounds like where you mentioned scoey. At least here if you want to change spots later you go to a wreckers and get a new cutout cover, no need to stuff around with holes in the dash.
Another is infront of the handbrake on the side of the centre console unit. Just make sure you put it forward enough to still grab the handbrake button for your handbrake turns (if that useless handbrake cable hasnt stretched on you yet)

That sounds exactly where I was talking about Ben, but I'll also check out down around the handbrake too!

I have a conglomeration of electronics surrounding my gear levers (80 auto) including sat phone with handset, gsm phone, cdma phone, UHF with handset, HF with handset. I originally was anti drilling holes in the console and in the main have avoided where possible. I have now changed my attitude slightly as I have seen the work that plastic repairers do thru work and they are brilliant. So now i am not so uncomfortable about it. I have my UHF Uniden 013 with detachable head and have the body hidden away in the front of the lift up console and just the face mounted under the dash. I have large bracket made to take the sat phone and have the handset pop rivetted onto the bracket which mounts through the floor (3 small holes in the carpet) and all mounted on the passengers side of the console. If interested I can get a photo or two and post them tomorrow.

Mine is a 105 not an 80 but I have also put my UHF in the dash. I took out the double DIN standard radio and put in an aftermarket Radio CD in the bottom slot and the UHF in the top slot. I have a dash mat on the dash and under the centre of this I put a plastic/perspex plate about 300mm square. I heat moulded the perspex to fit the contours of the dash. Through this plate I have drilled holes and put countersunk bolts up through perspex, dash mat and GPS bracket to mount the GPS. On the side of the GPS bracket is the mic bracket. Simple, no holes and works a treat. I did put some extra double sided tape and velcro under the mat for extra security.

Sounds like a top idea but a lot of trouble just for a mic mount. I might wait till i have a few more toys! ;-)

Hi Scoey,
I have a dash mat and all I have done is zip tied the mic bracket to the dash mat. It works real
well and you are able to put it where ever you like and no screw holes to worry about in the dash

Didn't think of there, the other option I thought of this morning on the way to work was a bit of plate bent at 90 deg but coming out of the ashtray or the actual DIN pocket under the uhf so that the mic would be mounted just in front of, and slightly below the UH088sx built in speaker. Thanks everyone for the input! :-D
