Morning all,
I'm looking at grabbing a few of those big blue plastic drums (205L ex chemical jobs) with a clamp on lid, but I was wondering if anyone knew what temperature liquid they would take?
It would be great if they could handle 130 degrees, good if they could handle 100 degrees, and OK if they handle 60 degrees. If they can only handle 60, I'll use steel drums instead.
Cheers,
Chump

G’day Chump
I use 2 of them for cooling purposes (small hobby of
mine)
and generally pump hot
water into them around the 70-90C
and have found no problems with them at all...so far
Hope this helps
Cheers

Hi Chump, we use plastic black drums, and I'd say the blue ones are made from the same plastic, we dump our frying oil in them at around 150 deg and they are fine, we've put in at 180- 190 and still fine ,but wouldnt recommend it as we once had the plastic bung melt and had 30 litres of hot oil all over the
shop floor.Nice mess to clean up that one! 120 to 130 should be ok. Hope this helps.unc

We use them at work and steam them out for re-use... High pressure steam at 130°C for several hours with no ill effects...

If you could use the ones with 2 inch bungs ask any dairyfarmer in the
adelaide hills or maybe a rural supply
shop, they sometimes have emptys. I had about 50 of them but I have a use for them and only have 20 left, then again I'm not near
adelaide.......

Nick, I know of someone who lives near to you that doesn't need much of an excuse to go away for a week or two. I'm sure he'd deliver for a fellow forumite. LOL

Thanks Nick, I will get out my phone directory. The 2 inch bung will be fine for what I have in mind.
Des, I'm not sure whether you are serious or whether this is an old joke between you and Nick?

I know a source in Adellaide for clean metal 205 drums with a 2 bung removable lid. They are used glue drums that have had a removable plastic liner in them. They wanted $15 each last time I was there.

Hey Mr Lexic, sorry Desmond, they would be good for your diesel to throw into the back as long as you have a good syphon. Nick may access a 1000 litre if you want one, plastic of course......... Cost a mint to fill it of course
mfewster, Nick may know some there in them thar hills. I think Des Lexic is having a go at me actually as not needing too much of an excuse but am locked at home at the moment

Hmmmmm
John, the 1000litre tank would be great but after paying the $1500 to fill it up, I can't afford to go anywhere. LOL

Mike, I've seen them at Paramount Brown's at times. Sometimes $20. I think the price depends on how many pallets of them they have.

Well essentially this is a stupid response but hey, I enjoy living on the edge... Did you all know you can boil water in a paper cup? try it, the paper above the water will burn but the filled bit won't...Made lots of money in bets with that one. Another good one too is "who invented the steam engine?" James Watt I hear you all shout in unison but it was infact his wife, he just did some of the work for her. In those days women knew their place & were not allowed to hold patents let alone show intelligence of any type...So good old James helped Mary out & took out the patent in his own name. I have a copy if anyone is interested - all 700 odd pages of it. It is believed that Mary wanted the Watt (unit of power) called the Mary but this has never been substantiated. It is further alleged that James expended many, many watts trying to satisfy his wifes insatiable desire for "marital relations" & that she was having an affair with Jim's busness partner Matthew Bolton...
See the things you learn....
