is it just me to do there seem to be an abundance of the same questions asked here.

I might not be the sharpest tool in the shed but maybe if the archive and search facility were used a bit more often the same questions wouldn't be asked all the time.

And if you don't belive me try it for yourself. I do it seems to work great.

Yeah I agree, has help me out alot on solar panels and other peoples ideas on using batteries and panels together.
One thing that does rub me the wrong way here is that when some people put forth ideas and they may not be in great detail, they are jumped on with correct and exact terms and measurements.
Im sure this will spark a few people up.
Just my thoughts

Your not alone on that!

Maybe an FAQ page with the same q's and a's on it would be a better idea!

What do you mean about this Truckster, you have me curious now. I think it may be a good idea but I am not sure exactly (ie how it works and will be displayed).

Some sort of Frequently answered questions page.

EG.
Batteries
Fridges
Tires
Fridges
Lights
Fridges
Cars
Fridges
Turbos
and finally Fridges.

Maybe page for each with common answers, and links to other threads on the topic.

God knows people are too lazy to search for stuff.

Look at some other sites for FAQ's to give you an idea.

It would save 100 posts+ a week!

Maybe a dropdown with predifined keywords and the Search keywords select box at the top of the fourm page. What do you think about this - It may help? To build a specific FAQ page will require data extracts and management of the content I expect and I would love to have the system be able to do it automatically. Yes bloody fridges - I must agree.

That would work... Or somehow a listing (may require manual work to setup) of Threads on subjects like PHUQUING FRIDGES...

Yea management of content would hurt to do it manually, unless you create a new page with copy and paste USEFUL info, with + and - on each fridge..

It wont stop some, they are just too thick(been to the George W Bush school on how to turn into a moron...) but some would benefit from it.

I was thinking yesterday if it would be possible to categorise the archives
would be more work for somebody (David )
Would be similar to FAQ
as I noticed in the archives it highlights your search word (good)
yet it missed some & also picked out IE tent in content

just my 2cents worth

Cheers Bernie

Thanks Burnie,

I have just about completed a new look forum index page. Well it is not that new look however it integrates the search into the forum index and also handles the searches a whole lot better.

Good point about the tent on content etc. I can program past this without too much hassle if it should be required.

The search should not have missed anything do you have an example?

David

If John had simply checked the archives for info on storage sytems for a Patrol He wouldn't be showing any interest in your set up.

I really don't mind one way or another ....If people went to the archive all the time we could miss that piece of new info from a new or infrequent visitor or that new slant on one of the perrenials questions. Many of the questions are from people new to the site and many are not that familiar with how such sites operate.
If its boring don't read it let alone encourage them by answering their query.

Thanks Blackie, how refreshing you are after reading some of the above comments. I'm only new to this site today and already feel threatened in case I ask a dumb or repetitive question (according to some). I don't mind reading about fridges and fuel economy and when I get bored with it, I'll just gloss over them. This site is great and I've just spent hours reading hundreds of questions and answers and I've learned some interesting tips along the way. And yes, I went to the archives and also used the search facilitiy.

Cheers
Lozza.

Upated to forum index page has now been installed live so hopefully this will help out with the searching as it can be done in one hit. Old page will also still work fine.

Let me know if you have any problems with the new layout of the index page.
