I am looking to find which types of second hand diesel van/ute or perhaps 4xd I should search for to buy as a hobby to road test and evaluate some 'small' batch quantities of biodiesel. Any results from this testing should be relevant to todays market.
This will be my second vehicle and more of a hobby so low cost is important. The vehicle will need to be registerable parts must also be fairly readily available. As you can see from this query I have still much to learn about diesels so advice from more experienced members would be welcomed
Thanks

Go a diesel hilux, single cabs are readily available with ample to spare parts wreckers etc, either 2.4 or 2.8 might be good starting point. or the older model navara's 2.5 or 2.7 diesel plenty of them around as
well. The navara would be cheaper to purchase than a hilux, just my thoughts, I'm sure some one else will let you know of other vehicles that would be appropriate for your testing. Regards Steve M

The trouble is that these vehicles have indirect injection naturaly aspirated engines which are all but obsolete.modern diesels are all DI Turbos and in the newer models have very sofisticated electronic engine control systems. The only direct injection turbo vehicle that may be in you budget would be the earlier model 2.8lt Rodeo's, these are fairly plentiful and were first produced in 1990 so cheap examples should be available. I would think that to make your testing sucessful the engine and injection system would have to be in good condition to start with so choose carefully!

Oh also , Landcruiser 60 series with 12HT engine may suit, but these are still fairly pricey.

Daihatsu Rocky?
I don't know chit about diesels but these were reputed to be a great, tough, little 4wd. You'd pick one up for a song if you look around.
