Instructions that came with my electric brake controller says that the unit should not be placed within 12 inches of any UHF. Problem is that there is really only one place to mount the controller. Does anyone know of problems relating to mounting the controller about 4 inches away from the UHF?

The manuafacture is playing it safe. If the controller has problems near a 5 watt FM transmitter they should improve their Electromagnetic Compatibility design.
Make sure that the UHF Coax Connector is very reliable or you can count on problems.
Put a Ferrite Sleeve over the power leads to the UHF and to the Brake Controller for additional confidence.

It shouldn't come on at all when it's not connected to the trailer.

Interesting that ....my Redarc controller shows red at all times when braking - trailer hitched or not. When the trailer is connected I get a green light that stays on all the time and the red shines through when braking.
Been like this since being fitted by reputable auto sparky.....it is wrong??

If its the voyager with the
grey label on the front as opposed to the purple one the unit is faulty. I had one and had a hell of a time getting someone to replace it. Ended up with Tekonsha USA finding someone that would help and ended up replacing it with a prodigy. Best move I made. Best do a search on here as there is plenty about the voyager
Cheers Dave

Oh no! Just installed my Prodigy right below the UHF. Hoping when transmitting it doesn't lock the brakes up on a corner on gravel! Is separated only by a colsole shelf! What are the implications if there is interference. I wasn't thinking about brake interferenc, only that braking might interfere with RF!
