Having just returned from a four day break at "the gorge", with a caravan, we were interested to hear at
Roma o'nite stop, that travellers with vans had been advised not to attempt "gorge" as road in was in appalling condition. Not so. Road had been graded as little as one week ago, so drive to the conditions and get out there
Regards Truk.

Anyone interested in travelling to
the Gorge should always check with the local
park rangers for road conditions. They drive them everyday and are happy to pass on the true story to those who wish to know.
Hopefully by now the roads have been graded to include the rocks in the clay surface as it is a slippery place after a little rain. When we were last there, there were mounds of rocks all along the road ready for use.

G'day Truk,
I don't take any notice of reports like that, considering that's why I bought a 4wd, specifically for roads in appalling condition. Mind you, with a van in tow I can understand your concern.
Have they opened up the '
amphitheatre' yet ?

How are you Pezza
Unfortunately '
amphitheatre' still closed. Overheard a convo' that possibly one or two weeks, not gospel! As you're no doubt aware still alot to take in, and just another excuse to head back there. Loved it!

I assume you have to book to stay there? Is there one
camp ground or a few I dare say there is plenty to see and do.
I am planning a 16 day trip including
the gorge in September next year currently a four day stay is set down.

G'day Brian
There are two accom. possibilities,
Carnarvon Wilderness Lodge, I think is the name, and Takarakka, which is where we stayed. The lodge is safari style accom. and a bit more upmarket, while Taka. has powered sites, off ground canvas cabins, bed only. The facilities here are very good, bush kitchen, very
well set up, clean amenities block,
camp fire to sit around in the cool of the evening. All this and you are only four kms from
the gorge. Taka. does have a web site, suggest you go there. We were more than happy with our four night experience there.
