Buyers Beware as Copied from VKS-737
Presently there are a number of old-model Barrett SB250 HF-SSB radios on the second-hand market, which have been disposed of in quantity by the WA Police Department.
Prior to disposal, several essential internal parts (channel memory and microcontroller ICs) were removed from these radios by the seller, presumably for security reasons. The lack of these parts means these radios as purchased will not work. Since the parts are no longer manufactured by semiconductor companies, they cannot be easily replaced to restore normal functioning.
For the information of anyone considering purchase of a second-hand HF-SSB radio, Barrett Communications wishes to advise that we are unable to provide any technical assistance for these particular SB250 radios.
This advice does not apply to non-WA Police SB250s, or to other models of Barrett HF-SSB radio. However, as with any purchase of second-hand equipment, prospective buyers should be sure of the condition and features prior to making a decision.
For further enquires Barrett Communications Service department can be contacted by email as follows: service@barrettcommunications.com.au

Doug, another gentleman on Ebay was selling a Codan 9323 that was unable to be reprogrammed.
Buyer beware.

Doug, thanks for alerting people - not nice to have paid a good sum to find that the item is useless.
A similar case exists with the
Perth Comms HF106, which needs a master chip to reprogram the TX frequencies (RX frequencies can be programmed ok by the user). PC were bought out by Codan and the support technology buried. These master chips are now scarce as, but they do still exist.
If anyone needs one of these reprogrammed, I can refer them onto a suitable person in WA.
Contact me on gezza90 at T P G dot com dot au
cheers,
Gerry
