Gday All

There was a recent post about off road boat trailers, and as promised, I have put a few pics of the setup I have in my rig profile. It was mainly some mods to a suspect old trailer, and they seem to work fairly well, made it to Kalumburu recently......feel free to ask any questions if interested.

There has also been some discussions recently on the power usage of 80 litre waeco's. We just had a 2 night getaway, and I kept a few readings of the battery voltages etc which may be of interest:

Fridge was full of cold stuff, with only 1 pack of bacon being actually frozen. We set the temp at -6 for the drive (2hr), to use the alternator to get everything really cold before the car was parked. The wall furthest from the condenser was 4.8 degrees. We have 2 exide extremes as aux batteries in paralell.

After arrival and turning car off, we let the fridge cycle 1 more time at -6, then set it at -2. After this cycle, the bank read 12.85 volts. (at 1.45 pm, amb temp was 32 deg)

at 8 am next morning, had a voltage reading of 12.64 volts. At 1.30, after 24 hours, voltage reading was 12.61.

At 10.45 am next morning, just rior to starting the car, and about 15 hours of battery only time, the voltage reading was 12.42 volts.

The fridge was opened and stuff got out fairly regularly, and only 1 x 750 drinking bottle of warm water was put in during the course of the trip. At the end voltage of 12.42 volts, I would think I could get another 48 hours without a recharge of the batteries. The daytime temp was around 33 degrees, and night got down to about 12 or so ? We were at home valley on the Gibb. Hope this is of use to some.....

Cheers Andrew

No worries oldmagpie, the 2 batteries are almost new, and I think a few more openings etc will make a difference. I've got a bit of a habit of wanting to moniter things and write the stuff down. Mates think I will make one hell of a Grey (bald) nomad in 20 years or so.

I was glad the trailer extended easily today, as it haden't been done since the Kalumburu trip 2 months ago. It has 2 grease nipples along it and is good and messy so it shouldn't stick I suppose.

Cheers Andrew
