I am keen to take my 80 series petrol auto to Cape York. I have the standard tanks, would prefer not to carry extra fuel, and whilst I am well aware of the amount of fuel they use I have looked at the Maps etc and it would appear to me there are plenty of places to buy fuel.

I am looking for some advise on this, basically do I have the range with standard tanks to get from petrol pump to petrol pump. I am not concerned about cost of fuel just availability.

I travelled the Cape during June and found that Bramwell Junction was out of unleaded on our way north (17th June), and had only about 100 lit on our way back (23rd June). I was carrying jerries and was ok (just) but had I been dependent on Bramwell would have been in trouble. I understand this probelm was caused by trucks not being able to get through due to the later than usual rain. You could always ring ahead to check. Enjoy.
