Hi all,
First timer so go easy.

I looked at the new Hilux TD 3l Dual cab SR5 today to replace the 2004 Nissan Navara STR V6. Could some one tell me what they are like to tow with. We have a 1t Camper Trailer and I have never owned an Auto let alone towed with one.

Thanks in advance for the replies.

Regards,

Can not comment on the auto, but I have a manual TD 05 Hilux.

Just got back from approx 16,000 KM trip to Kimberley, GRR, Mitchell Plateau etc etc towing a 1,500 KG off road camper, including over 6,000 in the dirt. Not a hitch. Ran beautifully.

We tow at around 90 KPH on bitumen and 80 KPH or to conditions in the dirt.

Have also taken the same set up to Fraser Island a couple of times.

Don't think you will have a problem.

The Navarra has a much higher max towing weight. OOOPS I'll probably get accused of bashing Yotas now??

That'd be a change wouldn't it??

They bought a Navara here at work for towing a sweeper, what a joke, the bloody thing wouldn't pull my grandmother out of bed, Nissans towing capacity rating is far to high for this vehicle.

The new TD Hilux is much better at towing albeit one UGLY car

Towing with an auto is a breeze. Just remember they get hot if you work 'em too hard, like up hills or in sand. As soon as you find yourself needing to use a bit more right foot, it's time to kick it out of overdrive and back off to about 100klm/h.

I have the 05 TD Hilux Auto and my mate has a 2004 Navara TD manual Dual Cab. He tows his boat with it all the time, recently we used the Lux instead because his vehicle was in for service and we both agreed the Lux was fas better at carrying the load. The suspension seemed to work better and the extra power was handy. The Navara has a higher towing capacity but I have yet to find out why..?

To be fair his Navara had his work tools and equipment onboard and my Lux had nothing. I think the later design aspect is the big advantage for the Lux, haven't driven the new Navara so can't comment on this.
