Sometimes statistics can be interesting (and hard to believe) "Over a year, a family of four spends around $4,135 on alcohol, guzzling on average 44 slabs of beer, 14 bottles of spirits and 77 bottles of wine."

So if the kids aren't having any beer, the average adult drinks 88 slabs. Now I don't even drink 4 slabs a year - so who's been drinking the 172 slabs a year to keep the average up this high ??????

So if the kids arent having any the average adult drinks 88 slabs ?? how do you figure that one ?? 44 slabs TOTAL for a family of 4 = 11 slabs each or 22 per adult or 44 if one adult does not drink .

Mike,
I agree I wouldn't drink anywhere near that but...
44 slabs a year is only three stubbies a night, every night, that's not much, then allow double that on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and you could pretty soon knock up some scary numbers...
No doubt the 10% excise to encourage responsible consumption of alcohol will work????? and slow these boozers down. Not likely

And those figures don't include the homebrewers in Australia.
I have heard estimates of 600,000 homebrewers in Australia.
I am in the homebrew industry and I have one customer who drinks a carton of stubbies a day (I think he has a drinking problem!!!!!!!!!!!). I know plenty of guys who drink at least 6 stubbies a day.
A bit like all statistics - they just tell the public what they want to.
