Hi all

Robyn and I are sitting in the new van at Norseman CP in the rain.

It's our first trip with a caravan, and this may sound dumb BUT, when hooking the van up to 240 volts at the park and still hooked up to the Troopy.

Will the smart charger be charging both the van battery and the troopys aux battery? and if it is will it be doing any harm?

I have checked both battery's under the hood and both had 13.4 volts been running all day, Troopy setup is an ARB smart solenoid and has never damaged the starter battery, but Robyn has flatten the aux battery (running Engels and not driving) but ok it made sure the system works.

Any help will help

Thanks

Richard

If you have a good quality smart charger you have the perfect set up.

I make up extension cables for the car to caravan connection so you don't have to park right up agaist the towbar to connect.

13.4 to 13.8 is known as the Float voltage for LeadAcid batteries - if they are left at this voltage they will remain fully charged and will never overcharge.

It sounds like your Smartcharger is doing what its paid to do :-)

Thanks Mike

The only problem I have is I read this voltage on both the starter and aux battery and the smart solenoid should have disconnected the two batterys, but I checked it in between the rain and driving all day, so both batterys should have been fully charged (I think).

As I'v said before it's hard learning the hard way

Cheer's

Richard - I assume the Isolator is designed for direct charging connected to the Auxiliary - Solar or Mains.

It will have Voltage Sensing on both batteries and close the Relay when either battery is charging to connect both batteries to the charger (Alternator or Solar/Mains)

Just a quick one to say Hi and hope you enjoy the new Van
I'm sitting in my van at Orange Grove and it is raining here too.
Can't answer your query, I think that's in Derek's field
